GV reload delay changes?
« on: July 30, 2013, 08:10:47 PM »
Just as the title suggest. I play for realism so I am simply wishing a reload delay for all light/heavy MGs and full auto cannons on all GVs. I believe that with this implied it could make the ground game a bit more interesting i.e.

1. wirbles ammo capacity and reload delay verses the m16s ammo capacity and reload delay... clips vs drums and round size guys  :headscratch:
2. Light/heavy mgs ammo capacity. I believe the .50 cal used on our many American vehicles uses a M3 or m17 ammo box with a capacity of 120 that belt feeds in. Code it to show 120/1000 perhaps? After 120 rounds are fired have the delay for the next ammo box being loaded. The 30 cal used (and please correct me if I am wrong) the m1 ammo box with a capacity of 250.
3. if this does ever come to be it would also be nice to have the nice sexy sounds of a ammo box being opened and the clanky rattling belt being loaded in and gun cocked coded into the game.  :rock but that's just me  :P

care to clarify? Seems super easy to code no?, its just a simple delay after x amount of rounds shot. Just makes it more "real" than doing it  style if you catch my drift...  :P

Hoping this would be applied to airplanes too...the ones that had them anyway.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

The issue here is, if you add reload. Then you have to have gun jams. If you add that, then engines have to have engine failure otherwise it isn't realistic. Perhaps having landing gear get stuck and if you rip it off you're stuck with that additional drag.

See where I am going with this?

Pretty much if you add something like this you have to add a boatload of "could happen but most of the time didn't" things, that would overall make the gameplay more frustrating. "You only killed me because my guns jammed, I had to reload and the sky was purple today".

While I would like more realism, we have to draw a line as to what happened in real life, and what should be added to the game. This is one of those things that should never be in game, due to the ripple effect that it would cause.

^-- what he said.

You don't have to add anything but reload delays. There were a number of planes in WW2 that had to manually change drums on the guns, too. The cannons on the Bf110C, for example. The gunner positions on probably half the bombers in the game include drum-fed guns which would have reload delays (albeit only a few seconds in some cases).

The Wirble is a totally unrealistic monstrosity without reload delays. It could fire 20 rounds at a time. That's all it had in the magazine. Staggering the guns (fire bank 1, reload bank 1 while firing bank 2, reload bank 2 while firing bank 1, etc) would slow down the rate of fire but keep the bullets flying. Or they could fire all 4 at once for maximum impact with a delay every 20 rounds per gun.

I think this is one feature that AH really needs, overall, for all planes and vehicles. Just to bring it one step out of the arcade past. In the early days they made a lot of concessions, but IMO in the present time these are no longer needed and we can move on to better standards of detailing/modeling.

It could be an arena setting. This feature could be able to turn off and on in the arena settings. While turned on, all guns use real-world magazine/clip sizes and reload times. This would at least be well used on the scenario level. While turned off, then all guns fire continuously just like we have now.

The only other consideration is overheating the weapon/barrel with sustained fire.
