Map Rotation
« on: August 04, 2013, 09:53:09 AM »
Raise the requirement to win the war on small maps to 30-35%, and lower the requirement on large maps to 12-15%. Also lower the limit for a map to be up from 7 days to 4. This would greatly balance out the incredibly disproportional time spent on large maps as opposed to small maps and also prevent one map that has become stalemated from staying up an entire week. This is a simple wish that would increase map variety and keep things a bit fresher in the MA.

Or...........  REMOVE auto rotation upon reset altogether and have a time limit set by HTC.  (You could still win the war but the map would only reset and not change)

This does a number of things:

1-  Squads will know which map will be in play for advanced planning of main arena events.  = adds to immersion in the game

2-  Popular maps that would otherwise be vulnerable to reset in short order, are GUARANTEED to be available to folks for at least a full day for example.

3-  Players would ultimately have a WIDER range of experiences with terrains that are typically reset sooner rather than later

4-  Trinity could come back and not dominate the rotation.

I seem to remember HiTech or Pyro stateing, in a previous thread created on the topic of the reset time/timer, the current 7-day limit is so a player who can only play once per week will have a chance to participate (or something along the lines of all players that can participate on a map during the cource of a week, will or can have that opportunity).

The more logical reason to me is that they don't want auto-rotation to replace any/all incentive for players to work for a win/reset themselves.  IE: you can work to win a map and one of the rewards is a map change, or sit back and do whatever you want while disregarding the effort on your country to win the war, because you're getting a new map anyways in a couple/few days, tops.

I hope I understood the idea of this correctly. I see one negative thing about the fixed time limit. If a map is not changed and the time limit not reset then there could be the following situation. A map is won couple of hours before the time limit is reached so you get the same map as before reset for that small amount of time. Some players may log off because there is little point in long buff missions and the base capture loses its appeal if new map is on for that little time.

Having a single map for 7 days may get annoying, but a quick map reset/rotation is also bad IMHO, because it creates little of the "not worth it" feeling for certain missions. I think winning the war should rotate the map, maybe just tune the war win requirements. If a map is reset because of some technical issue maybe the current war situation can be "frozen" so that players can continue from the same territory situation.

Nope.  Sorry you misunderstood (and late response).  I always try and think in the simplest terms availabe, therefore I said disable the auto reset.  Actually, the best model for leveling the rotation time would be a compilation of things.  Even so, winning the war in AH sometimes has the unwanted consequence of moving a popular map out of rotation before a good number of its customers even know that it ran.

It depends on what you mean by a "quick" map reset.  I was in my own mind thinking of a time limit somewhere between 24 to 36 hours.   That gives me time to plan ahead with my fellow players.  In this case, your point about those not caring if the war is won or not increases, I will agree.  I do also absolutely believe that if any one particular map has a tendancy for whatever reason to hang on for 7 days, the statistics will show that the majority of players' time will be consumed on that terrain.

In the interest of balance, a system like what you describe that works on the requirements would help even the rotation but limits are the only measures that ensures to both shorten and extend the playing time of all maps.

What it seems to me people are actually asking for with the war win requirements changes could be met by simply this:

Instead of a percentage, have the war win based on having 90% of your bases, and a certain number of bases taken from the opposing sides.  I'm not sure what the right number is, but maybe around 15?  Then it wouldn't matter what size map it was, the requirement would be the same and maps would rotate through at similar speeds.

Edit: And, I agree, 7 days is too long, should be 4 or so.  One map shouldn't cover 2 weekends.

Maybe I'm missing something (it's late here already)... but how can a map cover 2 weekends when the max uptime is 7 days? I mean, a week having 7 days...  :headscratch:

Sunday through Saturday, it's sort of covering two weekends.  You're technically correct though. (The best kind of correct!)
