Ju 87
« on: August 08, 2013, 10:58:03 AM »
I found a place online were they talked about the Ju-87s have 2 20mm mounted in the wing root. :x This was in addiction to the 2 7.92 mm. I believe we see more people flying them then. Now they are cannon fodder for any plane. If you overshoot u might end up with a few pings. If u had 20mm u would be in more trouble.  Also were is the JERICO SIREN that they had mounted on for terror effect.
 Please HT pretty PLEASE :pray

The 20mm was in later versions of the 87 than we have(D-3), and it was replacing the fixed MG 17, not in addition to it.
The Jericho siren was removed very early in the war, our version did not have it anymore

And HTC usually do not respond to wishes like that, they just read them and either implement them at any point in time... or they don't ;)

The 20mm version was the D-5. The Ju87G-2 is from the D-5 and it would be relatively simple to add, and quite honestly I don't know why they didnt add it with the last JU87 update. We would of had a Bombing version a Jabo version and a Tank Killer.

The siren was on the earlier models which  we dont have.

Since the Ju-87G-2 we have in game uses the same plane model as the D-3, it should be a G-1, which was based on the D-3 airframe.

I'm not sure if it is Worth HTC's time to add the dual 20mm Stuka.  Would this model carry ords as well, or was it used completely as a gun boat?

The MG 151/20 were just replacing the MG 17, that's all.

IIRC while I was skinning the default Stukas I suggested the G-1 become a G-2. Partly because there were a lot more G-2s in service and partly because it ought to be easier to fly with the bigger wing, the real one was.

I'd guess the reason we have a D-3 rather than a D-5 is because it makes a much better substitute for a Ju-87B for scenarios.

Actually they don't use the same plane model. G-2's wings are longer than D-3's in the game as they should be.

Yeh, I think this is the reason. Also having D-5 load out would be problematic as far as the skins go. Their use was so different that having G-2 skins used with D-5 load out and vice versa wouldn't be good thing IMO. And then there's of course the dive brakes although I think they could be made to work through the loadout options, though.

I'd personally like to see D-5 due to its big role in saving Finland during Stalin's Fourth but obviously it isn't the most critical addition when looking at the whole picture.

I was just reading this figure the other day ...something like 46 G-1's  vs  250 to 300 or so G-2's ...also the G-1 had only 12 loads or 6 shots  vs 24 or 12 shots in the G-2.

The D1 had a siren and was the same as the D3 as far as load out.

This would be a better Ju87 representation

D1 with bombs up to 1.8kg, wing 250 bombs and siren

D5 20mm  bombs up to 1kg wing 250

G2 37mm

I doubt the previous D-series Ju 87 could carry the 1.8t bomb, the D-5 could but only with reduced fuel (fuselage tanks only, wing tanks empty). I don't have an overload loadplan for D-1 and D-3 though.
D-1 in had a standard max takeoff weigt of 5.9t and with 1t bomb it's at 5.84t.
D-5 hat 6.3t as standard max takeoff with overload max at 6.5t, with 1.8t and reduced fuel it's at 6.48t.
Max bomb weight for D-5 within standard load conditions is 1.4t at 6.303t overall weight.

I just got done re-reading Stuka Pilot by Hans Ulrich Rudel (A very good book) and he talks about dog fighting Russian fighter in the Stuka and shooting down planes. We made no mention of 20mm guns so I assume he used the two 7.92X57 guns. He also talks about his rear gunners downing planes and a few rear gunners were holder of the Knights Cross for shooting down planes with the rear gun in Rudel's unit also a 7.92X57 gun. Our rear gun in our JU-87 is near worthless.
