Make the Mustang sound like this.

Yes, the P-51 is a dweeb plane in the game like the Spit.  The sounds these aircraft make in real life are unforgettable.  HTC is this possible in the game?

go to the custom sounds part of the forum download one of the many soundpacks i suggest Frudas or twinbooms replace your original sound file by creating a new sound folder and dropping these new downloaded files in and dragging the old sound folder to desktop and ping Wish granted :)

You sure that's the supercharger?  The sound changes with airspeed changes, I think it is the belly scoop making the whine.

If that were the case spits and lancs and anything Merlin powered would sound this way.

You are correct

As a kid in the late 50s and early 60s we had a family friend who owned a P-51 and flew it in air shows until he was killed in an air show accident in 65. I once got to stand behind Ray while he taxied his P-51 to a hangar and I will never forget how I could feel the engine in my chest. He flew that P-51 with F-84 jets in show and that P-51 could out clime the jets or at lease that is how I remember it.

Of course Ray's plane did not have armor plate in it or a full load of fuel and was much lighter than a war time 51. That P-51 is why in my personal opinion our P-51 in the game is under modeled more like a very early P-51D. I would be happy to pay perk points for a late war P-51 upgrade. The P-51 had kills on the Mig-15s in Korea and stayed in service into the 1980s with some countries and over may have been the very best piston engine fighter in history. Thanks for posting the video.

At the 'Greatest Show On Turf' in Geneseo this year there were two P-51s, 'Never Miss' and 'Quick Silver' and they sure sounded different. Qucik Silver had that sound while Never Miss did not. Whether it was fact or not the announcer mentioned that it was because Quick SIlver was 'cleaner' and a little faster. First time I heard it and that in addition to that wonderful P-51 sound just made me  :D

For the Hunter's and i think the Meteor the sound is caused by air over the gun ports  known as the blue note .
If i remember correctly on the Mustang it is the air going through the radiator (dog house ?)
Best howler has to be the F104  :rock

My first assignment at Homestead AFB in 1988 - they were transitioning from F-4s to F-16s. The Phantom howled like crazy!

First off, your premise is mistaken. Dweebery comes from how you fly, not what you fly. Anyone that thinks otherwise is still a dweeb.

To answer you final question, yes and no. Yes, you can make it whistle. No, it won't sound real if it does. So, everything you use will be a tradeoff between sounding good in the cockpit and sounding good from the ground. Because of the way DirectX uses and portrays sounds it is not possible to make it perfect for aircraft. The reason is very simple, they just have too wide an operating range. That's why you can have a dozen different sound packs with optimized sounds that all sound different.

Vehicles are another story.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.
