Why are there no Macross/Robotech games worth a damn?
« on: August 13, 2013, 01:32:27 PM »
I keep thinking there ought to be good games for this genre of transformable fighter jets, but there just isn't any.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Harmony Gold and Studio Nue have issues with each other.  Macross is not in the USA because of silly licensing lawsuits.

At this point I would be happy with a side scroller platformer game with flying similar to the old Amiga game Wings of Fury.  At least you would think people would make a rip-off game.

The only game that has come out recently that might have been in this genre was Strike Suit Zero, but they limited how often you can use the transform ability, turning it into a super power mode.

I do have a VF-1S super mod for ARMA-2, but it is just a fancy way of doing vertical takeoffs, hovers, and landings.  You don't get to run around as a giant mech.

I would be all over a Robotech game, they had a decent game for the Playstation 2. Had anime style graphics so it it looked like the cartoon while you played. Still have my Roy Fokker Skull 1 VF-1S, Rick Hunter VF-1J and H. Ichijo VF-1A with Skull markings in red and black.

In the West, its been because of the licensing troubles but in Japan there are a crap load of Macross/Robotech games.

Yep, I remember being in the 4th grade watching Robotech on Toonami. That and DBZ were the only two animes I really got into. I actually caved in to nostalgia and watched the original series about two years ago on YouTube. While the 80s style love/peace theme was pretty corny, the action was just as good as I remembered. They definitely have enough material I think to make a live action film trilogy. I'd go see it, but it will not be made until someone gives in on the licensing agreement. Their missing out on a big opportunity here in the US.

Those were before my time - had to google em! Those look really cool!

I'm excited for this to come out -- from the *original* creators of Call of Duty who formed their own team after a legal battle with Activision/Treyarch (as I understand it)

It's called Titanfall. Not exactly a mech/F-14 transformer but it looks really cool!

I was a huge Robotech fan as a kid growing up.  Every five years or so I watch the series on DVD all over again.  Some of the dialog has gotten painful though as I've grown older.  Hell I read all the books too, I should do that again some day.

That would be impossible. Joe Walsh's awesomeness defies boredom. Life's been good to him so far. :rock
