One thing I have learned over the years is this. If you want a pigpile and endless seal clubbing, ask an actual question.
If, on the other hand, you want an actual answer, get on channel and say something intentionally wrong and you will get endless fact based responses correcting you :)

So very true.
They're casting their bait over there, see?

I encourage all young beginners to go join the Bishops and follow the big green dar bars and do what they do.

Seriously though, I haven't met a new guy in a long time that wanted to put forth the effort to read any of the training material provided in the trainers links. If they won't do that then why should I put forth any effort to help them?
You show me a guy that will read training material and plans on staying for the long haul and I'll do everything I can to help him anyway I know how. Otherwise they're a waste of my time.

perhaps players should stop telling them that p38's and 190's are great beginner's planes.

:lol sorry, I did a complete edit job on my post as you can see. But as far as planes to learn in, I'd say Spits of coarse and the niki because of the ammo load, knock down power and turn ability. But first and foremost pick a plane and learn it inside out. Keep track of what planes that are killing you the most and figure out why that is and adapt your tactics or flying style accordingly to meet that challenge.

Trouble is, those links aren't readily identifiable on the HTC home page.

Trouble is, those links aren't readily identifiable on the HTC home page.

and also that some terms are meaningless to a new guy.  flaps, rudder, e-management.  I am not kidding but when I started playing I heard two guys talking about e management and I started looking on my plane for the e management gauge.  so I asked them what e was for, then said energy, so I smiled and looked at my fuel gauge and noticed I had plenty and wasnt gonna run out of it anytime soon and wondered why those idiots waited till the fuel was almost gone to start managing it.

I still dont know what trim does, I read about it, people tried teaching me about it, but still dont understand it.  then again with my handicapped of having to visualize everybody or I wont understand it creates a bit of a handicap.

when I fly with my squadies I feel like an idiot. they're very good at bombing and have tried to explain the ins and outs of bombing to me but I still look at them with these confused look.  we take off at the same time with same plane, same fuel, ords and 15 minutes later they're 10k in front of me.

I can imagine what a new guy feels like.

Yeah I do have to admit it wouldn't hurt to make them easier to find.

and this from semp: and I started looking on my plane for the e management gauge.  so I asked them what e was for, then said energy, so I smiled and looked at my fuel gauge and noticed I had plenty and wasnt gonna run out of it anytime soon and wondered why those idiots waited till the fuel was almost gone to start managing it.   :rofl :rofl

I suspect most of us don't realize how much we take for granted.  I'll never forget Bug and another guy teaching me what a lead turn was on AW's training night in 1995.  The light bulb over my head suddenly went on.

The new folks who are ambitious will go to the TA, especially if you suggest it.  But I think a lot of new people are too proud to let on that they're beginners, which is why I try to give them an opportunity to do some of that pilot stuff when I meet them.

The 113th Lucky Strikes invites everyone to come wing up for a flight or a night.  We have trained a bunch of new guys.  Answer the questions we can and show them the ropes.  It's all good.

I just try to help.  Ask Midway....before he became the current incarnation of Midway, we went to the DA and I made some suggestions.  I actually liked the way he flew.

I just try to help.  I hated being new...but I damn sure remember the guys that helped me.

i have no idea who is new and who isn't, but if someone asks a question i will try to answer it. Game is hard enough without all the BS answers people will give a new guy.

I generally give a straight answer if someone asks a newb question on the channels.  As far as taking them under your wing to teach them stuff, I think it's a great idea if you're good at it.

Years ago I used to hang out in the TA for an hour or so, on weekend mornings, and just monitor the text. Questions would pop up from noobs and I'd answer them as best I can. Most of it was very basic "how do I..." stuff.

Give it a shot if you have the time.

In the original version of AH, Warbirds, they had trainers in the arenas most of the time.  It was their job to find the new players and invite them to the Training Arena for some 1 on 1 training.  In return they played for free.
