Warping
« on: August 17, 2013, 09:11:21 AM »
Last night I was told that I was warping. Is there some way I can see if I'm
warping before being told I'm warping?  Also if warping is a connection problem, would the other aircraft
appear to be warping to me? Is there any way to prevent warping?

Thanks;

To test your connection you can download PingPlotter It's a free program used to test the connection. In stall it and in the box type the server address for the game server 71.252.137.149 Let it ping for once every second for 10 minutes or so. Any "red" is bad. If you want more details, take a screen shot of the program and post it here.

More often than not you'll see others warp if your warping too. The other thing that may cause a warp is the guy doing the complaining may have a weak computer and he is pushing it too hard with extra eye candy but it only really shows up when he dives into a furball, or a big spawn camp.

In the game, you can right click the map and select "net status". When the page swings out you'll see two blue boxes. The white line running through them should be flat. In the top box you might see some small peaks as this is your computer loading stuff, new planes coming into view and such. If it is spiking all over the place you may be having issues with some other programs running in the background.

Keep an eye on your 'beacon' light in cockpit, if it's on your connection may be less than optimal.
You don't get the 'switching to TCP' do you?

Its a good idea to power cycle, turn off and on, your modem and router every month or so. When done, leave it off for a minute or three.

Thanks for the help, I haven't seen the "switching to TCP".
I'll keep an eye out for the "beacon light", recycle the modem and try the Pingplotter program.

At times, I've noticed that everyone else seemed to be warping at about the same time.  Come to find out it was me that was warping...  :frown:

I wondered what the beacon was for.  One of those small details you miss.

Beacon - Shows your connection status to the host

    Grayed out - Nothing wrong
    Green - Slight variance
    Yellow - Problem exists
Red - Your connection is being lost

 Goat,

right click clipboard map, look in window for net status, click that open nd look at top graph.   If you are warping or see another player warping check your net status varience and delay, you will see either a smooth line, means the other guy is warping or a sawtooth line, means you are warping.
