ROCCAT Kave 5.1
« on: August 17, 2013, 06:54:35 PM »
My headset died and I'm down until I get a new one.
Does anyone have any experience with this headset ?
Are there any problems using a TrackIR Pro Clip with it ?

Any input is appreciated.

nope.  I am still looking for a 5.1 myself.  have tried a couple of those that are still being made that can be connected to the sound card and they both have hissing.  but out of both the kave is the worst.  it is annoying and that is the #1 complain about it.  I have a triton that I bought a couple of years ago and it's broken so I just add more electrical tape and plastic dental floss sticks to hold it together till I can find a replacement.

been looking for a replacement for well over a year.  I may end up braking down and buy a usb but that wont be until my triton is nothing but electrical tape and dental floss sticks.

I'm using a turtle beach z6a that has broken 3 times, while I've been wearing it.
A real POS.
I like the mic, amp and sound but it is made of the cheapest plastic in the world.
Mine is held together with electrical tape, duct tape and 2 ignition keys from an old ford. Its a monster creation (abomination creation ?)

I live in an apartment so I have to use a headset.

I've been using the Speedlink Medusa 5.1 since my Beyerdynamic DT990 broke a decade ago. They seem to make them even in 7.1, but only as USB. The 5.1 is available in both USB and soundcard versions. http://www.speedlink.com/?p=2&PHPSESSID=c6de47e43cbcce90e42e631fc29ee906&cat=28. Don't know if they're sold anywhere in the US, though.

after checking out the pics close up the design appears to be almost identical to the turtle beach z6a. And there was also comments about being fragile and wires coming loose.
I think I'll pass on this one   :old:

I must admit some of the reviews I saw made me think twice before mentioning the Medusa. It just might be that I'm exceptionally cautious concerning my stuff. This pair has been along in about ten cons, which were no sunday school reunions. The only wear mark is the dust that has gathered to the earpad plush. The former pair broke by one of its swivels, gave it away to a friend who has two capable hands and short of money. Then again, I've also changed cheap joysticks to new ones mainly due to growing tired to them, thinking I could invest €40 every four years or so to my toys.

If you looking for a really sturdy stuff, some real life aviation headsets are available also as stereo or they have computer adapters. Aircraft Spruce might give you an idea or two about them.
