Mark Moerland is being treated at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. He suffered a fractured leg and dislocated ankle as well as a lower back fracture, said Ingham County sheriff’s Sgt. Matthew Flint. Moerland’s wife authorized Flint to provide information about his condition.

Moerland also suffered a partial lung collapse, but that is not affecting his breathing, Flint said.

The Ingham County Sheriff's office says Mark Moerland was pulling a utility trailer with a riding lawn mower when he left the highway, drove through the median and hit an embankment and guardrail before launching into the Sycamore Creek.

Medical conditions are a possible and more than likely the only acceptable reasoning for this. If he did it because he was texting, he'd at least notice he's off the road once it got stupidly bumpy. On top of that why would someone be recording it unless it was set up or had been going on for a while?

There really is no reason for him to do this other than medical reasons.
