Condor drones to eradicate Florida Keys Mosquitos
« on: August 22, 2013, 10:52:53 AM »
Homeland Security News Wire
The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District is considering using a drone to spot shallow-water pools where mosquitoes breed along the Keys. The 2.2-pound, 2.5-foot-long drone would use infrared cameras to locate the shallow pools and allow the district rapidly to treat those areas with larvicide.

They need to do someting.  Mossies are thick on some of the Keys.

Thing is, all it takes is an upturned leaf with some water in it to breed mosquitos.
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain that is pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain

Congrats Condor!

Maybe you should design a crop dusting accessory so it can do more than locate.  Seek and Destroy.

We are on that very mission but instead of hauling fluids at 8 pounds per gallon (which we could never do) the aircraft will distribute pellets targeted directly to problem areas. This is the flight of the intruder mission.

Better hope you don't drop those pellets in someones Coy pond. ( not sure if I spelled that right  very large and expensive gold fish) :rofl Might be some problems with privacy issues as well. First naked pictures of someones daughter in her back yard sunbathing hits the net and look out.

There not using them in populated areas. They are used around the islands off the coast (less than a mile) after very high tide or storm events. More so on stagnate pools of water that accumulate. Fish and game want to use them to monitor migratory birds on the islands that are off limits to the civilian population.

They used to spray the Cayman islands every few nights, from a regular old Cessna.  People at cocktail parties would see the plane go overhead and then put their hands over their drinks in a futile attempt to stop from ingesting it when they took a drink..

Man, back in the 70s, we used to follow the mosquito spray truck on our bikes while they were fogging our neighborhood. Riding through the fog waving to our parents while they were sitting on the porch laughing.

Problem is, the mosquitos that survived the years of pesticide onslaught, now have immunity and pass the immunity to the larva. The stuff you would have to spray now to kill them would most likely diminish the human population. lol

My parents live one block off the coast in Gulfport MS. Mosquito's were a huge problem after hurricane Katrina and still are to this day. Mostly due to all the abandoned houses and so many objects still there that hold water. I helped my parents and other neighbors go through the neighborhood and turn over any object that were holding water for a 4 block radius. Sadly nothing a bunch of individuals could do about pools though. Lots of the homes that had been razed to the ground had pools that were nothing but breading areas for mosquito's. They would have loved the city doing anything to help with the problem. Good luck with your bid sir I hope it goes through for you. Out of curiosity will you be selling the drones or hiring them out as a long term service contract?

Thank you, Currently the FAA doesn't allow you to fly for hire. We can sell them the systems (which are on the FAA approved list) and provide them the required FAA flight training. From that point they will apply for a Certificate or Authorization (COA) for FAA flight approval over the regions they need to eradicate the larva.
