Thanks for the fight RedBull !
« on: August 25, 2013, 05:34:33 AM »
Thanks for the fight yesterday Redbull !

Had a really good 1vs1 for a good minute or two, with Redbull's K4, climbing, twisting and turning, spiralling ,downhill and then up again vs my 190F8.

It started after a many vs many action, where I tried to get a yak that just after dove down to the deck.
I had ok speed and tried for a 109K that where 1k away quite a bit higher, closing in slowly.

I normally nail a K4 trying to climb out at 400-600 out, but he just kept me on a out-of-reach angle all the time.

It tried to get his wing-tip during his following reversal, but again without getting that last angle % needed.

Now we where going down-hill followed by a typical 109k  pull-up, impossible to follow in the F8, but I anticipated that to some extent and pulled up in advance, tried to hit when the 109k flew up into the sky above in front of me, again with little or no success.

Now I was low on energy but with the inertia of the F8, flaps out I managed to follow Redbull's rolling diving vertical barrel-roll, again missing with that angle I desperately needed.
This game could not go on forever, the F8 protested heavily after the next pull-up rolling scissor dive move, when he pulled up last time, I knew its was now or never to get away, and I dove down to a speed of 380mph with the K4 on my 6 1.5k away.

The 109k was closing in very slowly, now at 400-600 out, when I prepared for the last resort scissor move, a squaddie of mine and some other guy intervened, as we where now heading deep in friendly territory. I only become to know it was Redbull because he was killed by my squaddie, that used his high position to knock him down during the pursuit of me.

A big <S> for the adrenaline rush and a good fight, Redbull !

You could think you should stay and fight to the death, but me and my squad have the idea the survival is important, and no extra points given for getting shot down in a very low % chance of survival fight, vs much better / numerous opposition.

A side-note, you CAN dogfight in the F8 when 1vs1 when you have the initiative  (for me in this case climbing up with some closure).

My fuel was at about 25% when I initiated the fight, I had less then 15% when I dove away.

I used full WEP for 80% of the time, throttled down to idle to follow in the rolling dives so I did not overshoot, and also turning to the left, with flaps.
The hard part is to know when you can leave, locked up with the better accelerating or a turning plane ( in this case pretty much all the planes in the game)

The F8 does normally not permit any dogfighting below 300mph when other enemies are around since your abysmal acceleration makes you an easy target without other option than roll.

Hey that was a real fun fight man, you know how to make an F8 turn very well. I know I whiffed a shot or two there, still trying to knock the rust off. I don't believe I had been off the ground too long so I was still a bit heavy on fuel, though it doesn't really make too much of a difference in the K.

I know you guys fly to live, I respect that. It's just my play style to fly into all the red guys and see how long I can last  you guys always wing well and are fun to go up against  :aok

I've definitely had a lot of fun fights since I've been back, a lot of old friends I've run into reminded me why I used to play :aok Other than a bad apple or two you can't beat this community when it comes down to it

good reading except the I called my squaddie to save myself.    :P

You could have respected Redbull and your adrenaline pumping fight with him by ordering your squaddie to clear you and not fire.   You would have still escaped and he could have fought your team mate with a dis-advantage.  However you probably would have turned back onto him afterwards.  It's that sort of thing that wears people down.  You have to remember the red guy has feelings too!

It's this sort of thing fighter pilots would disagree on.  I'm a heartless booger at the best of times but I must be going soft in my old age.    :D

in the context of his excellent experience,   say the random 109 he was fighting tried to HO ram him 1st pass then yea kill the sucker regardless of situation.

In multi con situations you need to kill quickly and working together efficiently is the way to do it.  As we do everytime we fly but it just read like Save really enjoyed his challenging fight and situations like that will not develop if your 2nd, 3rd 4th countrymen zoom through the pack.
