Suggestions for Fulcrum's Next Plane *grin*
« on: August 26, 2013, 10:38:47 AM »
While I tend to stick with a single plane each Tour, anyone who knows me well knows that I get bored easily.

The last month or so I've been flying the Zeke family, primarily because:

a.) In my eight years playing this game I've had very little stick time with the Zeke, and

b.) despite its agility, it's a challenge to fight and survive in because it's slow.  Also, it is the WWII version of the Ford Pinto*.

It's been fun...but sadly, I am now I'm getting bored again.  I blame it on my A.D.D.   :D

So I want to throw a few questions out to the understanding, unemotional, mature, and helpful "General Discussion" readers:

      - What plane would you suggest I try next? **

      - Why do you make this suggestion? ***

      - What factors will I need to take into consideration to be successful with this plane? ****

My thanks in advance.

XOXO
FULCRUM

 :aok :D :bolt:

* For those kiddies too young to remember the Pinto, you may find the following article informative: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/industry/top-automotive-engineering-failures-ford-pinto-fuel-tanks

** Suggestions that I should stop flying fighters because "you suckzor at ACM" will be ignored.  I'm well aware of, and am comfortable with, my extremely limited and generally laughable skill set.

*** Please, do try to be a bit more specific than "Because it's awesome / da bomb / knarley , dude!"

F4U.

It's big, it's blue, it has a tail hook and six .50s (or 4 20MM if you CHog).

And it's just plane-sexy.

Bf 109 G-6 with gondolas and 100% fuel load. Slow, stiff, turns like a cow in Calcutta, compresses in diving. A perfect excuse for not being successful in turn fights. But if you manage to hit something, there'll be a satisfactory bang.

cant go wrong with the Ki84.

very good fighter...does everything but run great...

very fast firing cannons...300 rnds go fast so quick bursts into cockpit....makes many a spit/brew pilot gnash there teeth.

keep it under 500..... the sweet spot seems right around 300......

she absolutely loves the vertical

if you find that you have stalled it out and are floating backwards(I have gotten it as lo as 48 mph without the backwards stall) ....the ONLY way to get out of it is to kill engine.)

if you find that you have stalled it out and are floating backwards...

Thanks INK!

Slightly off topic...the situation above is a viable defensive tactic with the A6M3 (I haven't tried it with the A6M2 or A6M5) with less than a 50% fuel load.    Hard right rudder below 180mph, stick to 7 O'clock position, she will flip over backwards.  Unlike the Ki...she will keep on going.  Be aware if you are low to the ground that you you need to extend flaps one notch once the flip is complete as you will lose about 100 feet of alt before she stablizes.

Fun for overshoots and just generally being annoying to the typical MA hordelings!  :D :aok

But.....but.....but......the wings are bent!!  :D

I just don't "get" the Hog.  I know its a great plane...I know lots of people love it...this is my issue.  I've tried and tried....but it never feels right to me.

KI counter controls much much better than any other plane but the K4.  With the right altitude, you can make the KI vanish in a right turn when you see the attacker pull lead for the shot.  It's amazing.
