Look at your key mapping. If it says a/d are unmapped, make them do something. There's also a reset option, which might help.

Your new stick is a twist rudder stick and by default the the yaw axis will be mapped to that.

If you unmap the twist axis and set it to none, you can then map the rudder to key presses. However I'm not sure why you'd want to remove the twist rudder but that's what you have to do.

Same thing as differential brakes,if you map them to rudder pedals you cant use space bar to stop.

   hope that helps your problem.

Didn't know rudder and brakes can't be configured into two different controllers at the same time. Hats and numpad both work fine for looking around, zooming and clipboard work too in multiple locations. What makes rudder and brakes different? Is it because they work in steps on the keyboard unlike potentiometres?

When you map the analog command to something, it overrides the digital one.

You have to map the rudder controls to your stick.

Don't forget (or if you're new to a twisty-stick or rudder pedals), when you calibrate your controller(s) to twist the stick to max left and max right deflection as well.  Same with the throttle slider(s).
