Yep....thing ain't lookin' to good for the future.  About two months ago was watching the Leno show.  The show sends out someone who asks simple questions that people really should know.

On the Campus of Cal-Berkley two students were asked who the Vice President was....LOL now I grant you who really cares, neither of the students knew the answer.

I guess they get a great 400K$ education at Berkley eh?

what is your point?  You do understand that Leno's probably search ed for hours in order to find two that did not care enough to know right?  Probably freshmen right out of high school?  Does knowing who the vp is help you with building a rocket or perform surgery?  Are you confusing intelligence with memorizing useless information?

My previous bike (BMW) had a cig lighter outlet. It was wired direct to the battery with just a fuse in the line. Commonly used to power things like a GPS or heated clothing for winter riding. I used to trickle charge the bike battery all the time through it. Makes things a lot simpler when the battery is buried under the tupperware like on the beemer, or even a wing. That was a neat solution to the charging issue and it worked just fine.

Sometimes folks just don't understand the situation and instead of looking at it for the reality of the situation, just try to ridicule what they don't understand. It ain't a hardware problem, more of a software issue between the ears.

I know the type of charger you mean but possibly you missed the point in this.  His battery was dead.  He wanted to plug into the power outlet on the bike with the dead battery to recharge the battery on the same bike, not a different bike.  You do understand that would not work, correct?  I was not critisizing because of his possible lack of education.  I think what we forget to teach the young (or the old for that matter), is how to think and that leaves them trying to remember what they were taught to memorize.

I smiled, took a breath and told him that would not work.  I did not explain why.  We then sold him a small trickle charger and a "pigtail" that is mounted on the battery so you can plug it into an outlet in your garage, connect it to the pigtail and keep your battery fully charged every time you park it.  I use one myself and have mine plugged into my garage door outlet which is overhead so I have no wires to trip over.  In the Arizona heat batteries are lucky to go 2 years on bikes, with the charger and keeping the battery up every day you can double that battery life.

   The deep breath should clue most people, but judging from the question, I doubt it crossed his mind.

I have a tacoma for work duty, I was amazed when I took the battery in as a core replacement to Costco and they said it was 6yrs old      Almost unheard of here in Phx. That was less than 2yrs ago and its replacement is starting to fail...

I know I got really lucky with the last one, just kinda expected to get 2 summers out of this one, not looking like that will happen.

Well while we are on Motorcycles and stupid subject.

The battery on my bike died, and I didn't at that time have a proper way of charging it. (I was at my house, here's my man card)
But I had a solution   I stripped the ends off an extra laptop power supply I had lying around and duct-taped the leads to the battery terminal.  18 volts and 3.5 amps of battery charging goodness!
After about half an hour I noticed a rather acrid smell coming from the battery and observed the sides to be slightly bulged out.  That seemed about the time to stop charging it and I put it back in the bike and it started right up

Had you stated that in the first post it would have been clear however you failed to do so. All you indicated was he wanted a charger to fit into his power point on the bike not that he wanted to loop the charger back into the same bike. See the point there? I agree that trying to loop it back is silly in the extreme.

Was he blond by any chance? 

My sister in law left her phone at the hairdressers. The hairdresser found it but couldn't access it thanks to a screen lock. So as my wife is also a customer she called her to say she had the phone and to let the sister know. Now my wife is blonde and I'm sure you can guess what happened next!   Yes she called her sister's phone. How we laughed at the time but she doesn't like to be reminded.
