Me410 props don't map skin identically
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:07:07 PM »
The prop spinners on the Me410 don't map the blades to the exact same spot on the bitmap that is applied to both spinners. Working on a skin for the 410 I designated the spots on the prop spinner where the blades exit the spinner cap and painted in a faux hollow spot. One time it was spot on, then I noticed it was off. Took a second to realize I was spotting a minor problem with how the bitmap is wrapped around the 3D shape of the different props. Fixed it so it showed up on the second prop correctly but now the first prop is way off. If I get it to perfectly fit the one set of prop blades, it's just about 40-50% offset from the width of the prop blades on the other prop.

Is there a way to fix this so the 3D model maps them properly so that the same pixels map to the same spots on both? It might be as simple as rotating the bitmap's coordinates on the 3D model just a couple of degrees.

See attached JPG. First 2 are giving an idea of the "aligned" prop, I just chose a side and made it fit. At the same time moving to the other prop blade shows it is off-alignment (see right-most example in JPG).

I'm not really sure what is going on here.  I looked in Multigen, and the mapping is identical on both props (see below).  That is actually both props sharing the same area of the UV mapping.

Is it possible the prop spinners are perfectly identical, but that the prop blades are not? One spinner's blades' coordinates (X,Y,Z) are just offset compared to the other's?

Can you give me a link with your skin, or you can email it to me at johng@hitechcreations.com.  That will help me figure it out.  I think it might be the blades like you said.
