and you better hope that your family doesn't miss you too much while your in jail, seriously, even after the guy yelling at me, calling me all sorts of names and stuff like that, hit the pole I hung up my phone, pulled over and made sure he is okay, and I would have done the same thing even if he hit my car instead of a lamp post, car crashes suck, but if you ever come out of one with the intent to cause harm to the person that caused it, I would say you're a bigger dirt bag than a distracted driver at that point in time
you seem to think that if you endanger my family due to negligence (driving with a phone stuck to your skull and causing a collision is negligence) that i would care about jail. i'd rather serve a few years for temporary insanity than let a moron continue to endanger people.

if it's just me in the car, you tripped on your phone and hit your head pretty hard, then in your delirious state you attempted to hit me and i had to put you down...  :devil

Yup, same in Britain: 'Driving without due care and attention'.

I dimly remember some program that showed a British motorist getting a ticket for not having both hands on the wheel. Does that fall under 'Driving without due care and attention'? Or was it a misplaced memory on my part.

notice I said distracted driving, drinking and driving is unacceptable to me, if you drink and drive 1 time than that's it, you should never be able to drive on the street again period, and if you have a crash while drinking and driving. life in prison, no parole ever, the difference between drinking and driving and distracted driving is that, "oh crap need both hands on the wheel right now, drop phone" the thing with drinking and driving is you cant just "drop the phone" so to speak

when you are driving on the phone, you can drop the phone and revert 100% of your concentration to the road (so if you are a good driver, imo you can safely drive while on the phone) but,

when you are drinking and driving. you can not just become undrunk in an emergency situation, so that is why I never include drinking and driving in the same argument as distracted driving..

It's not temporary insanity when you've predetermined what you plan on doing. Not wise to post it in a public forum, speak about it to friends, etc...prosecutors look for this stuff.

The amount of stupid I am seeing....  Just...wow.

You go ahead and keep talking/texting while driving.

You WILL screw up.

And WHEN you screw up, I hope for two things:

1) You don't somehow involve someone else (unless they were doing the same exact thing.  Nothing wrong with a 2 for 1 deal there)

2) You learn your lesson or get killed.

Plain and simple.

I believe it depends Doright, on what you were doing. If you're taking your hand off the wheel to do something secondary to driving which puts yourself or others in danger then bingo. Fair enough really.

In Britain there used to be more traffic police on patrol, I think I met most of them when I was a motorcyclist   Then came the Gatso cameras, which were cheaper and generated more revenue. I think the former is better to instill more focus on responsible driving, now people tend to drive fast and with less attention nearly everywhere and brake before the speed cameras with little other supervision.

During my 2 years in England, we were warned during our driving class that driving with any distraction would earn a hefty fine and possibly a loss of license until we completed an expensive driving school.  A friend of mine got busted for eating an apple on the way to work on a pretty much deserted road.  The fine was more than $300.  Lots of Americans would get busted for taking sips of water or other drinks while driving.  All the major highways around Lakenheath have little rest stop areas every few miles.  So if you are thirsty, you are supposed to pull over, take a drink, then get back on the road.

At first it made me wonder how people ever got anywhere or got anything done, but after a few months I realized nobody gets anything done there anyhow, and lots of people never go anywhere either, so it really only affects a small portion of the population.  I would often drink a soda on the way to work, but I would sneak the drinks as if I was speeding, on the alert for police.  Strangely enough, I never got into an accident...

Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Made me chuckle.
I see cops on the phone all the time driving.

Seems the one who took the video was using his/hers as well.

the film is from russia or somewhere near there where there's a lot of scams involving accidents.  so lots of people have installed "dash" cameras to protect themselves.

as for the cops on the phone, I rarely see one that isnt on the phone and strangely most of those not on the phone are women.

it's fricking weird where I live, most of the cops drive with one hand on the phone slumping down as if they were in a low rider looking straight ahead, while the female cops are actually looking around.

oh well, i guess that's one of the perks.  that and getting freebies at the local topless bar.
