V-Base Sizes and a Rearm pad on one of them...
« on: September 05, 2013, 07:36:08 AM »
There is a topic being discussed for FSO about having ability to launch planes from a v-base.  It got me thinking and I wanted to throw this on the wall and see what sticks...

Propose the following...

#1 - Add a small V-Base (as we have small, medium, & large airfields)
     a.  The large v-base could be what we already have now
     b.  The small v-base could be the one we had before the big update a few years ago.  I believe it had 3 hangers and a MR by a clump of woods.

#2 - On one of these two types of v-bases, add a rearm pad.

I believe this will add a little craziness to the game.  Want to rearm at the V-Base?  You risk getting hit by a tank, etc...

Just a thought I'd like to discuss and see if there is any interest.  I know in the past there have been discussions before, but I couldn't find anything that discussed bringing back the old v-base into the mix and having 2 types of v-bases.

Any thoughts?

Bad idea if you GV, as it increases AC coverage near VBases.  Many of us who GV (*in addition to* flying planes!) recognize the need for at least some places on the map where GVs can fight and take bases with minimal AC involvement.  The reason for the latter is that when you have tried both platforms, you see that AC always trump GVs.  When ground attack aircraft are present, you transition in your GV to trying to avoid them instead of maneuvering against, lying in wait for, and shooting at other GVs.  Doing both at once usually doesn't work well because fighting AC involves behaviors which ruin your tactical position WRT the opposing GVs you are fighting.  Kind of like trying to dog fight and bomb at the same time (2 game activities which are obviously not compatable either).

Sorry, but IMHO, -1

IF the rearm pad was destroyable that might work. Have it tied back to one of the Strat factories, Ordnance Factory, and a nominal down time of 40 minutes, and a 1500# destruction setting. :D

I like that idea for base defense.

To counter bomb tards just have one or two guys out there in Wirbles. I ventor to say they will achieve more kills than the guys in tanks.       Also if people didnt like the idea of reloading bombs just limit to MG/Cannon rounds gas vh supplies and smoke also tank rounds. :x

Underdstood with reference to overkill for the GVers (bomb****s).

Which is why I am proposing large and small V Bases.  Only one type should have the rearm pad.  I do realize your concern though.  Would be a programming effort to decide which bases woul dgo where.  For instance, where there is a TT, no rearm pads.  Make them large v-bases.  Then place small vbases out there and have small v bases only with the rearm pads.

Again - just an idea.  Wanted input from all.

Also - with regards to the rearm pad and being able to destroy it.  I'd offer that if you destroy the fuel facilities on that base, the rearm pad becomes unavailable until the base has been resupplied to the proper levels.  Keep the strats as is in relation to how it resupplies the bases based on strat percentages.
