We ran a special event today (Friday) for Aussies, but few or no Aussies showed up.

I am surprised, since it was Milne Bay (a celebrated Australian battle), run on the anniversary of the real battle, on Friday, at prime time in Australia.  I also announced the battle in advance on the BB, including in a topic where some Australians were discussing game participation.

I don't think it was theme, day, time, or notice -- is there something I did wrong?  Is there anything that I can improve if I do this again?

Ah your event just happens to fall on the same time as 2 major Footy codes in Aus are enter their finals, and the next day we had to get up and go to the poles. In Aus you have to vote by law or you get hit with a fine.

That wont explain everyone, But I know I was watching the Souths fumble their way to a loss.  :bolt:

Please realize that only a fraction of regular game players even visit the forums--much less pay attention.

Maybe for future events get permission to make announcements a week--3,4,5 days out and then 3 to 5 times a day advertising the event in either the blue text or pink text--EXPECIALLY targeting OZ/Kiwi prime times.

Expats may evenshow up to support it if their time zone permits.

I do already know that.

We can't do that.

For special events, we can:
-- Post on the boards.
-- Announce a couple of times when the time of the event draws near.

Beyond that, we need interested players to help by spreading the word and recruiting people who might be interested.

And on this note, I'd like to point out the last/most-recent scenario time changes (mid-day (1-2pm) saturday) has porked my ability to participate in most scenarios, while coinciding with a drop/decline in scenario participation...  just sayin'...  was a pretty vocal minority there too imho.

Except for a couple of scenarios, all the rest have run at 3 pm Eastern, which is the same time as Battle of Britain 2013.  We found no significant difference in player numbers between the 3 pm time and the 9:30 pm time.

This Day in WWII, though, always runs at prime time Europe and as best I can get to prime time US (unless it's a weekend, but usually they are on weekdays).

I think this has alot to do with it.  As far as Aussies go.   Get them sober, then get them to read, I mean this is getting difficult already.   Still I hear the 8pm showing had very little interest too.   It is a shame but the MA is what people seem to want.
