I cant think of a better resource than this to ask my question...knowing all the folks here that tend to tip a few from time to time, i knew this was a goldmine!!  :D

THe wife and i just purchased a fairly large home, with a 1300+ sq ft finished basement...Luckily (for now...like i said i have a wife  :D ) ive been given the ok to build my bar in a section of the basement appx  18ft wide and 35ft long..... I know the bar area will have tile or slate flooring.....but beyond that....Im looking for ideas.... Cost is really no issue, as i am extremely handy, (was a builder for years) I plan on doing the work myself, and with a good friend whos a miracle worker with anything wood.....The cost would really be limited to the cost of materials, which i get at a contractors rate. Im thinking the materials budget will be around 5K....not including the flooring.

Im actually stuck as to what i want to do, and need some ideas......so like i said earlier.....i have a goldmine here, so.....any ideas would be wonderful!!!  Oh and with that I also mean decorations/theme .....  ( I was thinking of making it a Military OClub....something 50's era......or a Revolutionary era Public House..or a Hunting/fishing club  etc etc......Its killing me not having a solid idea... :bhead  Im open to anything at this point....

Thanks in advance  :salute

Food for thought:

The best private bar I've seen and quenched at wasn't much of anything special, except it was isolated in its own little room and, primarily, it had it's own back door out of the house.  This door is what makes this the best private bar.  1 - those days and nights when the weather outside is awesome enough to open it up and close the screen.  2 - when you and your buds are up until 3 or 4 am cracking jokes and telling tall tales, they depart quietly through the door, and you won't disturb the misses as much.  3 - next bbq or pool party, this will likely be the only room besides a bathroom people will need to go into your house for.

I've got a single bowl bar sink for ya.  Used it for a few months as a kitchen sink until I got further along on my kitchen.

Someplace to put the kegs, of course.

I like the wooden plank bar top.  My parents have one that was cut at the sawmill from an oak tree from my cousin's farm.  it is almost 4" thick and really nice looking.

Also a place to stash Cornelius (Soda) kegs so I can furnish you with some beer.   :aok

To give it a nice rustic look put some copper sheets as bar tops and put some apoxiy stuff to act as a laminate. Me and my father did that. looks really nice.

I'm looking to upgrade my kitchen and I've seen this acrylic cabinets, and islands, I believe you can build a bar like the island below from acrylic panels; I like yellow , mixed with black and silver appliances and ..lights;  but you can order any color; If you know to do some interior remodeling this shouldn't be difficult: but acrylic may need laser cutting and have to order the materials in China; they have limited choices at Home depot.

I'd have to look closely at the material but with the proper blade you can cut that stuff on a regular table saw. High speed trim routers are also used on some acrylics and the edges are flamed to make smooth.

It all depends on the type used,is it solid acrylic or is it laminated.

It does have a nice clean modern look to it though.

Where is the stove?

There isn't one in that kitchen, you have a cook top on the island and an oven in the pantries beside the fridge!

Not everyone has a proper stove like you have Von...... :devil   I grew up with 2 very similar to yours,of course they were in a restaurant and not in the house, come to think of it,we didn't have a kitchen in that house...... :(

Why would you want a stove in a bar?

We were talking about GHI's yellow kitchen, but...

Do you not enjoy something to eat while you are tying one on?    :D
