I don't think we have ever had the pleasure of meeting in the MA so you wouldn't know that I wouldn't lift a finger to take a base 95% of the time, nor do I enjoy vulching. I don't like the 88's because I play Aces High to engage in cartoon aerial combat, not dodge little puffs of cartoon flak from people too scared to lift off the field because their poor Runstang won't have a 15k alt advantage.

*sigh*

I fly f4f/fm2s mostly, occassionally the ki84/ki43.  I don't go over 8k unless buff hunting.

As of late, my computer has been fighting against me while in Aces High, and due to the 'hoard missions' in AH as of late, I get poor frame rate, and have to leave the arena.  I only take up the 88mm when I deem it absolutely necessary (Hangars are down, vulching etc).    I don't choose the 88mm to ruin someones day. I understand that, that player flown all this way (however far that may be) to find some sort of combat. However, if they get hit by my 88 round, they obviously flown in a way that made it easy for me to hit them. If they are in a fight, I will leave them be.

Please avoid using such provocative speech in the future, was totally unnecessary sir.   :salute

No, proximity fused rounds are grossly misused as a safe ground to run to.  The strength of the 88mm guns, gameplaywise, is that it is almost impossible to hit a maneuvering fighter with them but with practice a bomber going straight and level can be hit.  Currently I think it is a bit too hard so I'd like to see them remodeled as three or four gun batteries.

Point and click proximity rounds are much, much too potent and would have a catastrophic effect on gameplay.

Agreed, 5in is so easy to defend in.  At least the 88 is a challenge

My apologies, the Runstang jab was not directed at you specifically.   :salute

Im not talking about 5" guns on CVs. The Potency of the 90mms would all depend on their traverse speed, which I imagine was not all that fast. So fighters would be somewhat safe, and besides, aint it easy just to dive and shoot a gun out?

Not that fighters in WW2 were able to float over airbases waiting to vulch for long stretches just cause they were a few thousand feet in elevation either. Cause they werent. Radar controlled 90mm AA with proximity fuses were lethal to any airplane hovering like that.

To much vulching in the game. Not that the 90mm would change that all to much cause like I said how hard is it to shoot out a gun if you really want the base?

Also make a "release" button which doubles the rotate rate but is so coarse that it cannot be used while shooting.
I have seen this idea posted before and I like that one. For some reason the 88mm, 17 pounder etc always seem to point away from enemy spawn, base etc.

I like the current challenge of manual range setting in the 88 and I spend considerable time manning them. I do find it difficult to hit bombers beyond 4k, but at 3-4k it is pretty lethal. A single round at the right place can take out 2 buffs. Give me the control of an entire battery and I am going to shell all day long  :).

Just curious: can anyone get consistent hits on bombers beyond 4k range?

I'd like to see the 88mm changed to a battery of three guns, like the bombers are done.
I agree the 88s were used in batteries. I would also like to see the two speed turning gear so the 88 traverses at the correct speed our 88 turns much to slow.

I have, on a few rare occasions.  I even got a film of me getting all 3 bombers in 1 shot.    :O
