i disagree...100 years worth of wife points won't make up for a single indiscretion, especially if it's with one of her relatives or friends...  :bolt:
You realize that participating with friend or relative makes all accumulated wife points null and void.

Do you still have all your parts?

Don't want to steal the thread but just a quick safety note for those thinking about sanding their floors.  Something you might not think about is only reason I am posting the note.  Be careful, the varnish sanding dust you collect can be very, very combustible.  Can give a flash fire.  Just don't dump on a fire or the like.

Great job.

You forgot to do the baseboards, since there is no base shoe that would have been you should have put that on. The carpet guys prolly took that off. But other than that nice job.

Ardy, usually you use a drum sander, they come in a couple of sizes but 12inch seams most common. Then you need an edge sander which is just an overgrown palm sander that usually random orbit.

You should get the drumsander moving before you turn on so it doesn't dig in,they can wreck a floor in seconds if not careful. The real hard part is getting the finish right!

@Goaly,  nice work, amazing how good they look after abit of elbow grease!

Actually I took the quarter-round off of the bottom of the baseboards before I started. This allowed my to get closer to the actual base board and the slight area that I missed was covered up when the quarter-round was reinstalled. It resulted in a much cleaner edge. I would have liked to refinished the baseboards… But my wife wanted them painted. And since this is basically her room, I just went with it. I didn’t complain about the baseboards, and she didn’t complain about me buying an airplane tail to use as a decoration in the garage. Fair trade if you ask me.

As for the sander, I rented it from the local home supply mega-store. It had an eight inch wide drum. I watched a few videos on how to use it, and was real careful… But I still have a couple of spots where it dug into the wood.  I feathered those spots with a palm sander. My wife and daughter say that they don’t see them, but I do. Like morfiend stated, you have to keep the sander physically moving while you raise and lower the sanding drum. Unfortunately you are using the coarsest sandpaper at the very beginning… Just when you don’t any experience running one of these things, and it will leave a dip very quickly.

Well get to it then Man!! :rofl

As Goaly said, you will make the odd mistake,it happens even to the best in the business! However you can fix any gouging, provided it doesn't go too deep or through the flooring!

Ya through it,not all hardwood floors are thick!  some are only 3/8th or even less and I'm not talking about these new laminate floors but floor that were made back in the 40's and 50's.  If you remove a floor vent you can usually see how thick the floor is your dealing with,if it's 1/2 inch or thicker then it's pretty easy to do yourself and fix and BooBoos..... :devil

It's the finish that's really difficult to get right, dust is the enemy and so are those darn bubbles in the finish! Avoid making bubbles when you stir the finish and take care loading up the applicator and you should be good!

Oh and plan ahead, dont paint yourself into a corner!!!! :devil :devil

Since GOALY is my semi-neighbor, I'm thinking about putting him to work one of these days.  Seems like everything he does comes out beautiful. :salute

I only post pictures of the successes. That is why it looks like everything comes out beautifully.

There’s a website called instructables.com. And I have a few instructables posted on there… I was going to do one about my Father-in-law’s recipe for grilled chicken, but all of the photos show that I burned the crap out of it. So you will never see it…
