What makes a virtual community?
« on: March 07, 2001, 09:39:00 AM »
I posted a thread with some kill statistics.  I spent maybe 30 hours compiling the data over the weekend and last couple of days.  I have spent perhaps a few hundred hours of the last year playing with the overall statistics for Aces High.  I have some pretty killer spreadsheets and a whole new apreciation for Excell Macros.

In the recently posted thread, alot of people thanked me for the time put into it and the effort.  I really apreciate that.  It was quite a bit of work and it was done for the people that stop by this site.  Its nice to be thanked for that.

But, you know what?  It pales in comparison to the efforts that several people have put into making this game better for the people that stop by here, and the people that play the game.  The CM crew, map designers, plane painters, web designers and virtually anyone else that puts hours of their time, effort and resources into making something for others to enjoy.. with little to no return except the occasional "thanks".

Sometimes, its easy for these people to feel like they are being taken advantage of.  The people that are disruptive at events, the people that criticize there hard work with a cynical tone, the people that don't even think about how much work goes into something.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is <S> to the people that put the time and effort into making this community better.  I only wish there were more.

Though not a scorehound, I do know what you went through to get those stats. S!

You're right, railing at HTC nonstop is no way to "get the ear" of the developer. We really do take for granted what we have, don't we?

Is this a kinder gentler dejavu? I'm feeling all ooky!

Just kidding, I know where you're coming from. Watching that thread that I put the link to the sn1p3r film in was really cool to me. I know my movie sk1\\z leave a lot to be desired, but I had about 8 hours in that, and watching that thread develop was pretty cool. Lotsa nice people here.

Now enough with the mushy stuff and back to war!

Virtual People?

Good points, all.

This is a great group of people and fun game!

Even the BBS is starting to return to its early civility.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Demand that others do more to make your life easier and you'll find just how kinder and gentler I haven't become
