Death cam
« on: September 15, 2013, 11:33:22 AM »
I've recently come over from the competition, and so far there's only one thing I don't like: the abrupt way I die.  Yesterday I was trying to figure out level bombing.  So there I am in my form of three bombers at 28,000 feet over enema AAA.  Two of my vehicles were killed out from under me by flak--I didn't even notice until I went external view and there they weren't.  Couple seconds later I'm back in the tower instantly: dead according to the text buffer.  So the AAA is rather nasty in here, but that's not my beef; in Those Other Games there's a "death cam" that goes automagically external-view and shows you your disintegrating airframe for a few seconds.  This no doubt is intended to simulate the real-life experience of your soul leaving its mortal shell or something.  Anyway, though way-fake on the face of it, I find that it enhances the supreme moment of sacrifice a great deal.  Bouncing instantly to the tower is anticlimax.

Not critical to the game, but adds a nice touch. Allow the player "soul" to look around for a few seconds so he could see the situation and who/what shot him down. Death cam should only last for a very short time before sending the player to the tower. Allow to switch it off from "options" and end it with ".ef".

Could be a good feature.  Often I get killed in a multi con encounter by someone I wasn't tracking or someone I didn't think had a shot and it would be nice to see a quick replay.  I would rather it could be toggled on and off.

This is one of the main reasons why I film each flight (ALT r). Many times I don't see who killed me and want to know if there was something I could have done different to prolong the agony.... err fight  :)

this has always been a good wish.  let us film the last few seconds after death if only for the sake of making films.

We use to have this but it was removed due to people using it as a cheat. They would get killed in a GV, view the film to spot the enemy GV, reenter the game and kill him. It could be used to find players on the other side in planes to hunt them down and so on.

I don't think we will ever see being able to run both the game and film viewer at the same time again.

I can see a problem with death cam in buffs: If your in guns and you go to death cam when one of your a/c is destroyed your going to lose SA. Maybe once in the tower an option to watch death cam would be a good compromise.

you do know that you dont have to wait till you get killed to see who's around you on film right?

When you are about to bomb a target and lose one of your drones, a death cam could also ruin the sortie.

You can already record a film and the reason you die is captured on the film. That is why I see no reason for a film to continue after being towered. One can use an external view to check the drones frequently.
-1 because of the gv spotting ability.
