New website, old gamer...
« on: September 16, 2013, 07:44:08 PM »
Greetings all.  I am new to Aces High, but not new to Combat Flight sims.  I cut my teeth on CFS1, playing on the Microsoft Gamers Network, 13 years ago.  I even repainted a lot of planes back then, and I called the 'Die Staffel' planes.  Anyway, its been a while and I have now retired and looking at playing again.  My, how things have changed.   I am trying to fly these planes, but the dammed things run along the runway, but just wont get speed up, no matter how much I hit the accelerator.  I will have to work it out soon.  I also downloaded teamspeak.

I have also created a website for aircraft of World War 2.  It is still in the development stage, as I am putting the final stage up in October.  I will be adding new planes to it regularly as well as monthly calanders based on screenshots people send me.  You can find the site at www.warintheskies.com

Thanks

welcome  :salute

the Aces High trainers page (linked from the main AH homepage) might be useful for you in getting controls set up etc, I know it was very helpful to me when i was new
Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that you programmed RPM controls to an analog control and it is at the minimum position (or you need to invert the axis).

If you have questions, most people in this game will bend over backwards to help you out.

Agreed with the reverse axis.  Welcome Barfly!

you need to calibrate the throttle.  it happens to me whenever I disconnect it.  calibration will fix it.

Welcome. Many are going to tell you it's a steep learning curve, but it's cliche, and that doesn't really tell you anything. A good suggestion made to me was to get to know every fighter and then you can formulate how to counter them.  You can do a lot to help yourself, and shorten the curve by meeting up with a trainer. If you put a post on the Help/Training page re: what you want help with and when you are available,  they will help you get a good head start. I too came from a background of MSCF(s) and found there to be many differences, it may surprise you, it did me.

If you see me on and would like some help with initial type stuff, like setting up your cockpit views, etc. I'll try to help where I'm able.  Basic fighter maneuvers % combat maneuvers are best left to learn from the expert trainers...

As mentioned the trainers page is a great place to visit and also in the beginning I found the Musketeers website (Aces High related info) to be very helpful.

Good luck.

They're casting their bait over there, see?

My rudder pedals need to have the brakes applied before they will release in game.  Tapping the brake pedals once allows my planes to get up to speed.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

If you hit the number 2 on the keypad, you can see the throttle which moves with your controls in some planes.

Then you can make sure it follows your control inputs exactly.

I also use f3 mode and the [ and ] keys to get my point of view right behind my plane on the runway when I am setting up my flight stick scaling and other settings so I can get a good view of what the sim thinks I am doing with the stick.

 Basil,

welcome to AH,I too played MSCF series games back when, maybe we flew together!

Anyways,if you find the Training arena look me up I hang out there and try to help both the new guys and some of the old hands. If you have any questions or need help please post in the help and training forum, you'll get the answers you are looking for there.

Check out the trainers site.  http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/

This may help you with basic setup of controls, ground vehicles use the basic AWSD system but can be mapped to any controller.
