5 years, 40 tours, over 1855 “flight” hours, 160 hours in the forums, roughly 12000 kills, 3600 deaths, and $600 later, I am “retiring” from Aces High. Never say never, never say always, but this is the first time permanent has been warranted a farewell on the forums.
1. A big time crunch over the last month, a masters thesis, a baby on the way, a revisiting of the piano, flag football season and a PhD program start=no letup in sight.
2. More game flight hours than real flight hours really shouldn’t happen…gotta slow it down. It’s the principle…
3. If you spend 2000 hours poking around a game, you’ve pretty much seen what is has to offer. Granted you can always “perfect” something, but that is a game of diminishing returns wrapped inside…a game.
To the Pigs: Way, Ra, Razor, Amax, Do, Tempie, Bustr, Fish, Babs, Syko, Bentnail, Hammie: it has been a pleasure being your virtual squaddie and without you gents there’s no way any flight sim could have held my attention this long. I hate sappy farewells thus I’ll keep the pig forum/registration alive as long as you’ll let me
There are a ton of regulars that have come and gone that also warrant farewells: Rocky, Sehob, Drediock, Oaktree all come to mind in the “thanks for all the clears” category. To Ink, Kappa and the 80th in its entirety: you guys were always fun fights even if it ended with me in tower.
Vinkman: that August 2009 1v1 that went for 20 minutes plus? Yeah. <S> again.
The community is the best and worst aspect of this game as I suspect is the case with most online games. The bad apples do most of the talking and egos get hurt but at the end of the day there is no game without red icons.
On the whole this has been a great experience. Thanks to you gents (and Peppr;) I don’t regret the time spent nearly as much as I should.
Good Will and Good Hunting,
Ethan
