Not surprising the drop tanks would make nice little river boats, some were made into cool little race cars.

It wasn't just fuel tanks. In 1995 I spent my honeymoon in Vietnam. Yes that's right Vietnam vets. In Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City as they call it. I regularly heard the blap blap of Hueys over the city it was so evocative. Say what you want  but the Vietnamese knew a good chopper when they heard it.  More than that, it was clear they didn't like the Chinese and preferred the Americans Rather ironic that.

I noticed. The neighbors would hate me (which makes the idea even more attractive).

Most people have no clue of the animosity between the Viet and Sino.  The "an enemy of my enemy is my friend" very much held true in the Chinese-Vietnamese-American triangle (ditto w/ Soviets).  Today though, it is more US and Vietnam vs China then Vietnam and China vs US.

I've seen and read quite a few reports of  both Vietcong and US vets working together to do tours in Vietnam of the tunnel systems and museums . Seems like Vietnam wanted to get on with the US pretty quick after the war .

Back to the OP, however, I doubt any of those were jettisoned. They're in too fine a condition (even cut). I bet they were left behind at strips.
