171 IAP La-5FN
« on: September 25, 2013, 10:10:13 AM »
Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me the info on this aircraft.

This La-5FN was flown Ivan Vishnakov of 171 IAP. He saw combat from June 1941, rising from lieutenant to Major by the end of the war, shooting down 20 enemy aircraft. Post-war he continued in the VVS, was awarded Hero of the Soviet Union in 1948 and retired in 1975 as a Major General.

The text on the side of the aircraft translates as: "For Oleg Koshevogo", who was a squadmate killed earlier in the war.

Wow! very impressive!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
