Chosen coming back, ummm maybe.
« on: September 27, 2013, 10:29:09 PM »
Hey everyone it's been awhile and itching for some stick time. The only problem is I have 3 new in the box MS Side Winders FFB 2's and cant get patches for them to make them work with windows 7. So what stick am I to look for, or should I just load a version of XP on the back end of the hard drive and run it when I want to fly?

Any input would be appreciated.

Whats your problem with the sticks? Sidewinder support is built in Windows 7. Are you missing force feedback?

I was told that the sticks no longer worked. I will plug one in today and come in and fly a little to see how it works. Thanks for the info.

I ran into this also when i tried to use windows 7 ,found no fix ,or plug in that would fix the force feedback issues.
I love my Sidewinder stick's so much i did just as you for mentioned.
No sapport at all for them anymore at all ,damn shame to ,one of the best force feedback sticks ever for the cost.

You must have some special version of the sidewinder. I've been playing with my Sidewinder Precision Pro using XP, 7 and 8 without problems and never having to install drivers. I have heard about people having trouble with force feedback though.

Just for the record: Old CD's very seldom work with newer operating systems. The OS compatibility is often printed on the CD itself. Sometimes the additional software might work but the drivers don't. Of course there's exceptions to this rule. Some Win7 drivers may work on Win8, just as some Vista drivers used to work for Win7 and W2K drivers for XP. The compatibility often vanishes after major Windows updates such as ServicePacks which leads to believe the compatibility is intended for helping the migration to a new OS.

Shortly: A CD containing drivers for XP and its predecessors is useless with Vista/Win7/Win8 etc.

There are two versions of the Sidewinders.  One uses a game port connection and the other uses USB.  The USB based Sidewinders should work fine.  The game port versions will not work with Vista, or higher.

That is my understanding.
