Tom Clancy Dead
« on: October 02, 2013, 09:47:48 AM »
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/02/us/tom-clancy-obit/index.html

Sources are reporting that military and political thriller author Tom Clancy has passed away at the age of 66.

I've never actually read his books myself, but loved the adaptations of The Hunt For Red October and Clear and Present Danger. His final novel, Command Authority, is due for publication in December.

The Hunt for Red October is still one of my all-time favorite books (and the movie wasn't bad either).

He will be missed.

Red Storm Rising is still one of my favorite books, I remember reading it the year it came out in 1986, and I still have that original Hardcover.  I reread it at least once a year still to this day.  The early "Jack Ryan" books were alright as well, right up until The Bear and the Dragon, the last book you can tell was written solely by Clancy.

He loved his country, you can discern that much from his books, and his non fictional series on different branches of the military were excellent as well, I bought the first one Fighter Wing while on a trip to the USA, and read it the entire flight home.

RIP Tom Clancy.. over the past few years I have been converting over to all e-book's, however, the one set of books I have kept, is my Tom Clancy collection.  I own every book he has published.  Those that were put in hardback, I have hardback, and those that weren't I bought 2 copies of the paperback, one for my collection, and one to use and read...
His writings will surely be missed by his many fans, and his presence missed by his friends and family.

I've read Rainbow Six, Red Rabbit, Red Storm Rising and Cardinal of the Kremlin. I have a hard copy of the Hunt for Red October, but I haven't gotten around to read it.

Those are all fantastic, but Red October is even better. In my opinion, Clancy's best is Without Remorse, that novel is a masterpiece.
