Detailed Maps
« on: October 10, 2013, 04:02:44 PM »
I have heard a rumor that there exists somewhere, very detailed maps. Even detailed enough to have the building and gun numbers of town buildings. Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

I can't even find one detailed enough to show town guns at all, much less what their object numbers are.

Thanks in advance.

Oh yes there are some very nice maps out there with everything colored and numbered. But giving them to a Bishop bomber group wouldn't seem right.

Thanks for posting these.  It is appreciated.  Pand did an awesome job, all players in AH deserve to have these at their disposal.

What I have yet to see is someone doing a close up of the factories, I'd really like to have maps of them.   ;)

Thanks!

I noticed the lack of detailed strats map. I would love to find a good one. Someone once said that he heard of maps that even have the ack guns numbered on the town maps, though that may not be true.

On bombing strats:
For what it's worth, I have recently discovered (probably should have figured before now) that lining up on the streets for your bomb runs yields the most damage, provided you have big enough bombs. It often destroys buildings on either side of the street, and 2000 pound or greater on an intersection can get all 4.

You can drop a single 1000 lb bomb on the corner and destroy all four city blocks.   :aok  Remember, each factory building only takes 312 lbs of damage to destroy, while a city block takes 843 lbs.  Having said that, if the numbers are put to pencil and paper it opens up a whole new world in terms of which bombers are most efficient at taking down the city.  First, take a look at which bombers can carry the most 100lb or 250 lb bombs (or 50kg), then compare the number of bombs able to be carried of each weight.  Usually, the weight of the bomber is lower (less ordnance weight), which means a faster climb rate and faster level flight speed.  Also, it means there is less "wasted" ordnance.

Do the math sometime.  If your target is the city, try something else for ordnance than the 500 or 1000 lbs bombs.   :aok

For reference, here are the actual bomb damage in lbs:

100 lb = 156 lbs (need 6/ city block)
250 lb = 312 lbs (need 3/ city block)
500 lb = 562 lbs (need 2/ city block)
1000 = 1000 lbs (need 1/ city block)

50 kg = 172 lbs (need 5/ city block)
60 kg = 206 lbs (need 5/ city block)
100 kg = 275 lbs (need 4/ city block)
250 kg = 618 lbs (need 2/ city block)
500 kg = 1100 lbs (need 1/ city block)

If the goal is to hit the city, then I encourage people to look at the B17 (flight) armed with the 16/250 lb bombs (16 city blocks), or the 24/100 lb bombs (12 city blocks); the He111 (flight) armed with the 32/50 kg (16 city blocks), or the Ju88's armed with the 20/50kg bombs + 4 larger bombs (10 city blocks, + more).  Don't forget the G4M and Ki67 either.   :aok

AH is much more in depth than La7's, P51's, Spit 16's, and the heaviest of heavy bombers armed with 1k or larger bombs.   ;)

So with a set of B17's armed with 250lb bombs, you need only salvo 1 at each intersection, or is my math wrong? What would I need to drop at the 4-way to take all 4 blocks down? Should that be 4000 pounds required?

I am probably misunderstanding blocks versus buildings.

Not intersection, drop em directly on the block - which is a single building all of itself by the way. You need 844lbs to kill one city block, and a drop of 3x1 250lbs bombs does 936lbs of damage.

So smaller bomb loads are oftem more efficient then attacking the city. Take a formation of B-29s: With the 4x4K loadout (weighing 16,000lbs), you could at best hope for 16 destroyed block by dropping exactly on the intersection, but most probably you get 12 blocks at best - and that only if your aim is totally spot on.
With the 56x250lbs loadout (weighing 2,000lbs less), you can hope for 56 destroyed city blocks, and you only have to aim for the block itself, not the much smaller intersection area)
