Why is there a WW1 Arena anyway?
« on: October 12, 2013, 09:11:08 PM »
Why? Wouldn't a Korean War Arena be cooler, and get more attention? The WW1 arena is usually dead.

Why?

We had been polled by HTC if we would like to fly WW1 planes :)

I don't see any reason a Korean War Arena would not go the same way as WW1 arena - Initial high usage, rapid loss of interest and long agony to follow.

At first i was hoping that WWI arena was used more to try out the new hit models ,and then intreduce them into the WWII planes..but alas nothing.

Yes, enormous fun.  :noid

In the past 4 weeks I saw people in there on 2 occasions, though on one of them the single player there was obviously afk and not reacting at all.

Sometimes you have to hang out for a few, but eventually people will come. Some of the best fun I have ever had in AH came from little 5 v 5 furballs in there.  :aok

'A few' being more than one hour?
Maybe that's working at prome US time, but mostly not at any other. In fact, I haven't seen 10 players in there for ages. And you know I do track that kind of stuff... ;)

Just about every server save the MA is a ghost town except during US primetime. Doesn't mean that they aren't fun, and it doesn't mean that they should be canned.

A couple years ago I submitted a 2nd WW1 terrain, so at least the regular players could have a variety, but HTC turned it down because I used their own custom leafless tree trunks in no-man's land, which they said violated their "No custom tiles" rule, even though I used their tree and that's it on em.  So it became an AvA terrain, that we use during our WW1 set ups.  If the community would vocally back me up on it, I don't think the WW1 arena should fall under MA map regulations and fall into the same category as AvA terrains & such.  I went through a lot of time matching up the opposing field distances to match the Default WW1 terrain.  I would LOVE to see it used as it was made for.  I know the WW1 guys would enjoy it.  It's been on the server as avafront if anyone wants to check it out.[/spam]  :salute

But.. but.. the standard WWI terrain uses those leafless trees and tree trunks.

I think the issue is that not a lot of people found the idea of a stay to the death fight appealing  :rofl

Same reason I hate fighting birds that turn on a dime in the MA...they just HO rinse repeat.

I understand not all do it but more then most

Edit: That's why I disliked ww1 arena from day one...Korea I think would be fun. The fights I have has 262 vs 262 have been fun and working angles at those high speeds really is more complicated making it runner IMO

Rename it "furball arena" and restock it with WWII Aircraft and I'd wager they will come  :D.

WW1 arena is an absolute blast if we get people to actually follow us over from the MA. A couple times while the MA was pretty much dead some of us tried to get everyone sitting in the tower to go to the WW1 arena to have some fun. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but when we did get at least some people to come with it then it was some of the best fun I've ever had!

The kind of fun you can get when you get people to join in the fun.  :)

We should set up a WW1 night at least once and see how that goes.
