The media, and this is anywheres, is like any other corporation. They want to make money. Thats why they often focus on news that will get a visceral response from their readership. Or better yet, a visceral response from news they wish to hear in the first place. Or news that reinforces the already strong opinion of the readership.
In other words they tell you what they think you want to hear. Thats how their product gets sold. Many news outlets are owned by corporations and are tailored to further the goals of the larger corporation. News and propaganda are a powerful thing, capable of turning opinion in even an educated, Christian Nation towards accepting the most awful things. As in Germany in the '30s. In general people believe what they are told if they "want" to believe it beforehand. Pretty sad aint it?, Even in a so called free society they do so.
Its why you hear about the cop being arrested but not the one who saved the kid in the fire. Its why you hear about an attack when there is a racial component and not one when there isnt. Most of all when a blonde is involved. Its why they hound every step of some poor girl who married into some inbred royal family, eventually killing her. Negativity and sensationalism sells and theres nothing more dangerous then a slow news day.
I truly doubt its any different in England. The Land where the gutter rag originated from.
