i used to love that stuff but.... :O    :uhoh   :rolleyes: ...last couple of 6 packs i bought were all skunky. don't know why either, i thought the green glass was supposed to prevent that.

It's skunky because it's still made in Canada.      :neener:

Actually beer stays fresher in cans. Light is what makes beer go bad. I don't care for MH either. Tho many do.

It does taste like the S/B end of a N/B skunk.

Porters and stouts had always been my favorites, when I could drink, and I really enjoyed a Boddington's Pub Ale with a big plate of fish and chips when I would eat at an Irish pub.

On tap tonight is some Guinness draught. A mild refreshing stout. Last night I finished with a Pilsner Urquell, "the Czech's can brew some Beer too, after starting with a Sopporo. Ive always been very fond of both Sopporo and Tsingtao.

I've never been a fan of high end beers... My brother usually serves various expensive beers at his home, and he has a tendency to look down on the inexpensive domestics.

Frankly, I tend to think that it's as much snob appeal as anything else. I've tried beers in dozens of different countries. Most were not especially impressive. Adequate, but nothing special. Just another place's domestic brew.

Then again, I consider myself a connoisseur of beer, with the emphasis on the "seur" part....

In general its mass marketing that has ruined many popular American Beers. Mass marketing means the Beer is sitting around for long periods waiting to be shipped or sold. It also often means shortcuts have been made in the Brewing process in order to meet sales demands. This is what happened to Schlitz and Old Style. The old time German brewers who started the companies died out and the kids inheriting wanted more revenue so they cut the fermentation time with a different brewing process.

If you want to know exactly how good a companies Beer is then visit the Brewery and drink it fresh. We used to go up to Milwaukee to take the Pabst brewery tour and after it they would bring you to the tap room and let you drink your fill of all kinds of different Beers they brewed there. Unbelievable! I would rank that Beer with ANY in the world. But they closed the Brewery and now Pabst brand is brewed by who knows who and it aint worth a damn anymore. But...many get stuck on brand names and are loyal to them.

Budweiser has kept their standards high I believe. Visit that brewery and you wont believe how good it tastes.

Even European Beers go down the road of mediocrity thru mass production. Becks and Heineken are my two best examples. Once very good Beers now they arent worth a snot. Their quality paid a price for being the best selling imports. I dont think much of Corona either but they sell due to their catchy commercial and advertising outlay.

Then there is the individual palate. I prefer Beer with a higher ABV% which gives it more taste. Higher ABV means longer fermentation which means more $$ to both brew and purchase. More expensive Beer is usually brewed longer and in smaller batches, which means the quality can be controlled more. If Im going to have only one or two a day then i want what I want and I want to try different brands. And Ive already drank enough Bud and PBR to float the Arc so now I lean towards Micros and premiums.

I used to drink Buckhorn when I was stationed N/W. One of the benefits of being a troop in the '70s. One went on a world-wide Beer tour cause nobody gave a damn how old you were if you were in the service. I was fond of Lone Star when in TX.

I hated Coors but I remember when we went thru our combat training course in the TX bush, in the middle of summer when temps were over 100%, all they had at the BX at Bullis was ice cold Coors on draft by the pitcher. Boy it tasted good then. The first pitcher would go down without even using a glass.
