Stuka dive siren
« on: October 23, 2013, 11:32:29 AM »
After a couple of sorties in a Stuka I think it would be cool to have the dive siren sound.

I've heard someone made a custom soundpack that has the siren.

I think the D and G models didn't have a siren, I'm sure I read that somewhere?  :headscratch: I think it was the B model that had them but don't quote me on that.

I recall the last wish like this getting 'shot down' due to the fact that we don't have the 'earlier' version of the stuka. Which apparently was the only stuka to have had that siren. Best bet would be to get the sound pack like kvuo75 said.

We have the wrong version. The Siren was used on the 87-B. By the time the D rolled around the Siren had lost the psychological impact that it had in the first few months of the war. It was then removed. If we ever got the B, then it would be modeled, but I see no need for that version as we already have the D and the G for the tankbusters.

As has been mentioned, if you look in the Custom Sounds forum, you will find many sound packs that include the siren. I personally have it included in the soundpack I am using (Don't ask which one, no idea. Though I think it might be Frudas)

from the picture below you can see the siren on an early stuka, installed on the under carrage just below the leading edge of the wing. You wont find this in game on our later model D and G stukas

Personally if we did have a B model in game AND other players could hear the siren if they where close enough, I would probably fly this model stuka instead of the others; but I'm a stuka dweeb, so there has got to be something wrong with me anyway.  :D Interestingly though, many Ju87 pilots were glad when the sirens were removed. Their removal gained them a little more top speed due to the reduction of drag and I have heard and read anecdotes about how annoying/distracting the sirens were in normal level flight as they were always turning and making a howling noise that the pilot and crew could hear. It took the increased speed of a dive to increase the volume of the sirens to a level that could be heard distinctly on the ground. The Germans also found that they could achieve similar psychological affects by installing whistles to the fins of their bombs.

The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

the clowns in their tin coffins camping a spawn would hear it if they turn the engines off...which they normally do.
