That boat provided my family with income for a few decades. My grandpa helped build her, my dad helped refit her and my uncle served aboard her. She was a sight to see when she came into Norfolk.

Sad, but time moves on.

I remember when Reagan used her sister ship, USS Ranger for some gunboat diplomacy with a couple banana republics in Central America. The Sandanistas.

You mean when he threatened with military force and supported an extremist right-wing insurgency against a legitimate and democratically elected government in Nicaragua simply because their political views and economic policies were preventing the exploitation of their environment and workforce by American corporations?

Wow.  Didn't take long for someone to post something that will likely end up with this being locked.

So, yeah...

As for the CV, it would be like getting a "free" car...until the maintenance kicks in. :lol  Surprised they were not able to turn it into a museum like they did with the Lex, and sad. :(

Why? I was merely clarifying the historical context in which U.S.S. Ranger was used.

The SNLF (Sandinista National Liberation Front) were not democratically elected, the Sandinistas seized power in 1979 after a short and violent revolution.

Not initially, no, there was a revolution that overthrew the murderous Somoza regime. There was, in 1984, an internationally recognized as free and fair election that returned them to power.
