6./JG52 109 Yellow "2"
« on: October 28, 2013, 11:57:49 AM »
I tried to mimick it as closely as possible, but I am not yet done. I should be done by this evening, if time permits.

I actually just realized I

Messerschmitt Bf 109 Bf 109E-1 6./JG52 (Y2+) flown by Ulrich Steinhilper WNr 2798 Calais France Battle of Britain Sep 1940

The camouflage scheme of the illustrated Yellow '2' underwent some interesting changes in an attempt to adapt to the combat requirements from the Polish campaign to the Battle of Britain. The original upper surface scheme consisting of RLM 70/71 (as in Scheme B) was oversprayed with the lower color of RLM 65 along the side of the fuselage in a fashion similar to the scheme corresponding to the winter/spring 1940 period (as in Schemes A and C). In an effort to counter this effect to some extent, an overspray the fuselage sides by the upper colors appeared in an irregular pattern. The use of RLM 02 cannot be ruled out in this application. The aircraft carries the almost obligatory yellow cowl and rudder used on the Bf 109s during the Battle of Britain, and indicates that this practice was not just the domain of JG 26. The effective eagle emblem was a marking of 6. Staffel/JG 52.

very nice looking...would love to see that in the hangar. quick question, wasn't that emblem on the nose always a matte black rather than a blue? hard to get a bearing on what should be what.

another jg52 pilot...

this shows something different...

The emblem itself was outlined with blue and white with black being its main color. With it being black it just didn't look right on the skin in-game so I changed the color to a dark navy blue to see what it looks like after that and it looked better that way. Which is why I made it navy blue instead of black.

It also really depends on the time frame you are looking at, because the emblem changed throughout the war.

ok, it could just be my screen. the emblem looks like a dark royal blue on this laptop. about like this swatch color...

when i looked for jg52 nose art, i just looked up 1940-41 stuff, nothing later. they did have a big variety of nose art through the war. very interesting stuff.

very cool skin, i hope it gets put in sooner rather than later.

Yeah it was the game actually, the color in photoshop looks much darker. I toned the color down a lot, I will post pictures as soon as I am able to.

I like it. But there are a few easily correctable flaws beyond the incorrect emblem color.

First: You have the yellow extending one panel too far aft on the upper nose.
Second: Fuselage number "2" is mirrored.
Third: Smoke and oil staining not correctly placed. Exhaust smoke should be placed immediately aft of the exhaust pipes, and the staining on the underside would be from oil that leaks out from the chin hatch under the engine.
Fourth: Wing camouflage colors need to be swapped, pattern otherwise correct.

Once these are corrected, this will be one sweet Emil.  :aok
