Hblair Regurge
« on: January 27, 2001, 06:14:00 PM »
from my memory who may be altered   All started on a Cv bomb run, I killed the CV from 8k in a B17, then I spoted a low F6 who just took off. He he he, that's not very sporty but what the heck. I dived on him, didn't saw me coming in his 6   Level, jumping in the front turret, 700y.."fire"... F6 sees me, starts banking to dive away, but too late. Hey that was Hblair! Not everyday I can shot him down.

Later I meet Sancho who flies for the 56th. Between P47 lovers we up together for a sweep run. We spot some lower dots from 15k, there's an another Cv there, let's vulch. Some unsuccesfull passes, till a 190 comes in from nowhere...uh oh... I bet it's Hblair back with for his revenge. We adopt the "follow me and my wingman will get you" tactic. I make my pass, he starts following me... 1k behind. Sancho rolls in for the attack, but gets hit by a flack burst, forced to bail.

Well, that's bad news for me   I try to scizor the 190, 1 scizor "ping", 2 scizor "Pingpingpingcrack".... here I go down followed by my wing. Dam Hblair  ... no... that was Regurge!!!

Patching up what's left of our bullet proof virtual bodies, Sancho/me up for an another run. In the patrol area, 16K, we spot an incoming 12 o'clock 109, about 2-3K above us. Probably a 109 dweeb, we pass each other, let the 109 do his zoom/grab/reverse, then when he comes back on us, we brake away. Sancho broke left, I broke right. 109 follows me (why me? why always me?).

After some fighting, i can sneack in his 6... about 700-900y. The 109 starts a high G downward spiral. Down way lower, I can't follow him with blacking out, Ibrake away and starts a gentle climbing turn, keeping visual contact with the 109, on my low 8 o'clock.

Knowing I lost him, the 109 starts his zoom back to gain altitude, but Sancho is there, diving on him. Humm "Sancho, whatch out! You guys are H2H!" Bullets flying from both sides, planes passing each other, 2 black smoke. My blood froze, but Sancho comes in and say :"I'm ok, got him". true statement, the 109 is going down. Hey no doubt I couldn't follow this 109, it wasn't a 109 biginer, it was Hblair! Hblair, congrat on this 1 Vs 2.

We pretty far from the base, but Sancho could fly all the way before his engine quit and glide to the base (piouf). It was fun to fly by his side all the way till full stop. I got a pic for the record.

Last run, we go up again, same configuration. We approach the eni field at 12K (P47 sure can't climb). Down low we have friendlies mixing with a zeke and 2 B&Zing 109. After some passes, friendlies are dead, probably Hblair/Regurge winging each other and killing everybody. With Sancho we split. Sancho flew S and I circled N. We called the word to engage, and we dove in from each side, hoping to surprise the 109 aces. Nope, didn't work. After 2 passes, i have a good shot at getting into one of the 109 6, other 109 is far away, I give it a try. I drop some flaps, get into the 109 six, trying to have a shooting spot. Nope, I can't, after some turns, the 109 throws me off his tail. i dive and keep my speed. Wise choice as the 109 manoeuvers to come back in my six.

I hit the deck, 109 1.2k my 6. Time to scream for help hehehe. Sancho dives in, the drag doesn't work, the 109 avoids Sancho's pass and turn away. My turn to turn back, coming back around 300 IAS at 1000ft. The 109 and Sancho start to tango together, I do a high speed pass, pull the nose 50 deg up to merge on the 109. Opening fire, long burts, the 109 goes down (geez never shot so good of my live)... Hblair is down. I finish my loop, joining Sancho who appeared to fly by. "Got one, let's run!".

No we can't, the other 109 is diving on us from long 6. We split again, I turn right, Sancho's gentle left. Looks like the 109 is going for Sancho, I quickly bank the other way and can sneack into the 109 6. He sees me and starts some violent scizors. (Regurge, I don't know how you do those ones, you are incredible!). I do my best to follow him, carefully trying not to overshoot. Hop there he turns back..tatata miss... back again tatata miss   I just couln't nail him. Here is my last chance, less than 100y, if I miss him, I overshoot him and that's bad news, because I know he will not miss me. He comes in..Wow he feels my whole windshield...tatata lots of pings, quick look left, I see a wing falling. Wohooo! Lucky me

"let's go home!". We came back with Sancho and landed. Not everyday we can survive Hlair/Regurge with no losses.

Hblair/Regurge called for a "rematch" far from friendly disturbances, but Sancho had some conection trouble and was forced to disconect.

Maybe it's a lot of typing/reading, but I wanted to homage those two first class pilots. Hblair/Regurge, big time salute. I'm playing AH for almost a year now, and I cannot say that I have as much fun as my first week. I actually have way more fun!. I'm getting more and more pleased by what Hitech's team is accomplishing, I'm not ready to quit!

It almost felt like the HA, 2 109's Vs 2 P47's. We were just missing the red nose on those P47 and immersion would have been perfect. (bring my gabby's P47......pleaaase ). Will the HA work and be a good addition (cf Hangtime post), I don't know, but I'm sure HTC know what they are doing and if an HA is good or not for them.

Nice story, and nice pic.

Next time, perhaps you are bounced by them and the situation is reversed, who knows?

Sounds like good flying from all parts.

Great formation Frenchy, don't know much of of hblairs flying only vulched him once while he was taking off, never encountered after that but I had the honors of getting killed by regurge twice in his 109 Thursday nite.   < man, he can fly that thing >

Very nice AAR frenchy. Thanks for the kind words. I'ts always fun to do 2 vs. 2's with historically matched-up planes. You and sancho are as good in those P47's as anyone in the game as far as I'm concerned. Hope to meet up under different circumstances next time.

Great read Frenchy. Those were some great fights.

In that last fight i went for 1 of you (sancho) but couldnt get closer than 900yds. Initially he pulled away, but soon my g-10 matched his speed, and i knew i would eventually run him down.

I knew the other jug would be coming back soon, so i looked back just in time to see you roll onto my 6 at 350yds and closing fast. Holy toejame! I roll right and haul the stick into my gut, pulling a full blackout emergency break turn.

I re-aquired you, cut back to catch you on the overshoot. But dammo, u werent as going as fast as i first thought. I couple more turns and i was nose high and out of e at the wrong time. All i could do was float there and wait for my punishment

Great flying both of you. When flown right and with a wingie, the jug is real killer.

Westy, it's not obvious on the pic, but see how Sancho's P47 is smoking black and how his prop is feathered?   ... he's gliding home hehehe!!!

The feathering works good, as when I iddled my throttle, Sancho's was pulling away from me gliding, good job HTC

BTW Frenchy, the "follow me and my wingman will get you" tactic is called "Drag and Bag".  It works very well in Jugs due to their good high speed handling, good zoom, and great gun package.    A pair of Jugs can work a furball with this tactic very effectively.  You start with an E advantage and then dive through the furball with just the right amount of spacing.  The lead aircraft blows through the furball taking a shot or two, and hopefully attracting lots of attention.  As the bogeys reverse to follow the leader as he starts a shallow zoom out of the furball, the wingman is there to blast them... easy meat.

One good trick to help with the Drag N Bag is to dangle the bait at the critical time.  What I mean is, if you are dragging a bogey at your long 6, just as your wingman rolls into guns range, you want to do something to get his attention.  Normally what I'll do is increase my climb angle, and that will let him close the distance to me and give him a look at a nice fat target.  If it works, he will be eager for the kill and zoomed in on the gun sight watching you as your wingman rolls in and guns his brains out.  The trick is you need to have enough E to out-zoom him and top out just out of effective guns range if your wingman misses.  You can do it without the extra E, but then if your wingman misses you are in deep trouble.
