A few strategically placed RS-86s...
« on: November 02, 2013, 09:25:16 PM »
Could have made a huge difference here...

Thanks everyone for such a nail biter last night... I just watched my 39 min film from last night and it was just as exciting as last night.

I was in that large clump of He 111s, calls of Yaks on strafing runs were blaring through my headset, I started taking damage and then boom! The Yak 7 explodes just off the runway! Later in the frame a Yak was shot off my 6 by escort fighters and I made it successfully back to A71.

Post your screens!

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Congratulations Nefari on a brilliant set up. It was the most fun I have had in an FSO in a long time. Very original and was a ton of fun.

Nef well done!  I dint know we'd have so much fun flying He111s' and not as bombers.

A brave Red Airforce pilot attempts an strafing run down the heavily conjested runway at Pitomnik Airfield/Stalingrad.

Hey!!!!  that looks like me in that fireball.  I think I see my left boot!!  Have to say it was worth diving in on the rearm pad with 6 rockets and a 120 cannon rounds  :neener:

I have to agree.  The frame almost had a scenario feel to it...when we rallied with the transports just outside the cauldron.  And it wasn't just the surprise appearance of ROC in an He111 either.  Even the sound of battle...with all those 111's coming in a rearming under the red airforce...and then getting our fighters to the pad as the last of the transports departed...it was just completely awesome, white knuckled intense play, wholly immersing and a blast.

I envy the units who get the Pitomnik assignment this week and frame 3.  It was just a whole bunch of fun.  Much more so than just another target to attack or defend.

Brava Nef.

:)  During the briefing about 15 minutes prior to launch, I know that Stampf is going to be capping A25.  He comes across the radio and says "JG11 here alone, just us" and no one blinked.  "Just us" when it's Stampf means that 5 enemy to 1 JG11 and JG11 has them surrounded!  We were fine.   :D  KN showed up just moments before launch to add even more punch.
Now, I'm going to say Rusty is an understatement.  I actually spent about an hour before the frame launching, landing, rearming, just to make sure I didn't screw the pooch during the frame.  So, 17k to deck with enemy coming in, mr. moron here snaps a wing off on that last quick E bleed just before lining up to the runway.  Not sure what happened, other than totally screwed it up.  Had a short burp on the graphics, might have over corrected when I came out of the freeze frame but I'm simply going to chalk it up to stupidity on my part.
Sure is fun flying with so many of you, I don't get nearly enough time to get up on Fridays as I'd like.

:lol  Thanks man.  I was getting a bit worried before launch... :lol  Several of my veteran heavy hitters were absent to begin with...and then I was unsure on the status of the nowotny kommandos...  It wasn't looking stellar there for a moment... In the event...and the best part for me personally...the unit rallied...my guys poured in to fill the seats, and the newer sonderfliegern in the Gruppe...stepped right in and made sure the machine didn't miss a beat.

And...it was good to see you up, none the less.

Yea, I was there flying next to you and broke off to engage the vulcher and when I got back you were GONE? I know the vulcher did not get you as I shot his wing off... When I went back and watched the film I jumped into your A/C and saw the wing get ripped off......  ROOKIE!  ;)  Was good to see you up anyway, even if you broke your airplane....  <S>

LOL ROC!  I'm diving in to your group to keep my close air support really close when I was surprised and happy to se you there.  I came up on your 6 and did a barrell roll just to say high as I passed you, pulled up to come back around and as I'm looking back I see your wing let go, hehehhe, was laughing but I still felt bad for ya, great to see ya flying mate!  Next Friday will be better for you I'm sure.

As JG11 was formed up and strategically holding, waiting for the 111's, I look around and I see a bunch of my friends.   Stampf has motivated us all with his normal briefing that always places me back in history, feeling like a rookie pilot, proud to have been accepted as a Luftwaffe pilot in an exceptional squad, knowing that the fighting will be intense and I will fly or fall with my brothers in the squad.  I love this game !

have to agree it was fun, ROC. KN first spotted the Yak-7's coming in from the N. They were diving straight for A25 and we were above them. We dove in, scattered and engaged them. There must've been a second group come in cause there soon were more right over the field. Cleared each other's 6 several times which I'm thankful for. Good teamwork. Saw JG11 dive on the field and knew we could take care of business. I was covering Stampf's close 7 as he was on a Yak when the Yak pulled around some trees 180 and right into me. Neither of us got the kill and both went down as I heard the call from Stampf. Jumped into a gunner on a HE-111. Yak appeared out of nowhere just as i got into the upper turrent. Shot him as he over shot and he blew up. HE-111 pilots did a good job of landing and rearming. 2 Yaks that dove on the field were lucky gunners can't shoot while on the ground. They soon bought it anyway. Almost made it back but around A72 somehow 2 P40's found us on the deck heading for A71. Don't understand why A72 was not landable field. Much different FSO. Like it when there's an objective more than just shoot the other guys.

Well done JG11,KN,escort, HE111's.  :salute

As we discussed at the moment we split patrol, I knew they would commit some part of their attack to the immediate destruction of the ground defences at Pitomnik.  That was a given...but still, I couldn't help but feel later...due to the timing of the strikes, this was a waste of brave young men...and valuable fighting machines...but...never the less...

...I knew it was just a matter of minutes after we split N/S, that one of us would make first contact.  In the event, when KoW replied "10 plus", we immediately reversed, nosed down and made best speed back to the field.  As is our way...when entering the mosh...I released the schwarmen from staffel formation, and the game was on.  When I arrived on the scene...I spotted 4 dots crossing the field...and no guns firing...I almost banked over and away...but just then, KoW reported "guns down" on the field so I pressed on...barely able to copy local vox over the increasingly loud groans of complaint from my stressed crate, as I inverted over the train of four and committed.

The first dot vanished at the same time I picked up KoW's icon...the next in line was the yak followed by yourself.  I let the other a/c in my own schwarm know I was...in...and closed down on the yak.  Seconds before guns range...he pulled that reverse right into you...It was the damndest thing I ever saw T2, and before I could even finish my warning transmit to you...you both were gone.  Funny as this may seem...it angered me enough that I transmitted on squad vox about it...and encouraged the boys to clean that place up now!  Which they proceeded to do without loss.  Yaks appeared to be everywhere...but well dispersed, and isolated in single ship and rotte size groups at best. This I can attribute to the initial contact and kombat that you guys engaged in.  Friendly gunfire turned out to be the far and away most dangerous element to us...as we cleaned up Pitomnik prior to the arrival of the transports.

...all this...and the real game hadn't even begun yet.

Ouch, I bet you came up with about as many colorful words as I let loose :)

Unfortunately, I won't be at the next frame, but I should make the rest of them.  Have a work BBQ event to be at.  Abalone and Tri-Tip. Yumm!

Don't understand why A72 was not landable field.

The only aircraft that were not allowed to land at 72 were the He 111s. Only the fighter aircraft were allowed at 72.
