double vision and discoloration

for some reason, when I open the Aces High game, the graphics are discolored and are in double. what can be done to correct this? this only thing I have done that I am aware of that may have caused this is, I installed windows 8.1...thanks.

run a Dxdiag and post the first third so we can check out your computer. Video card type size, drives all that is in there. Once you post that info, you might get some answers.

Sounds like 3D stereoscopic support has been force on in the video card drivers.  Just a guess.

I'm having a similar issue and found this post.  I have used AH on this computer before, but I've been off a while and I got some new monitors.  Additionally, i have upgraded it to windows 8 then 8.1. 

When I reloaded AH looks like it is trying to use steroscopic mode, but I don't see any video card setting for that.

@gnarvis: First, your video card is getting old. It was a mid-class gamer when launched, but that was five years ago. So don't try to max every slider in the game.

Another thing that might cause anomalies is your monitor. I'm not saying it's bad or poor or anything like that. What caught my eye was the "Splendid™ Video Intelligence Technology" which

automatically analyzes and determines the nature of the user’s current task, thereafter adjusting the display’s parameters accordingly to ensure the best possible color and image fidelity

. Doesn't that sound like the monitor were doing the job of a video card? Try disabling Splendid™ to see if that were the culprit.

Thanks for the response.  It looks like Splendid is just a name for the old standard way of picking a 'mode'.  For example, theater, game, etc.  It just changes some of the relative settings like brightness and color.

It may be an older card, but I would expect it to at least work.  I used this very same computer and graphics card with this game before and I don't know that the game requirements have changed significantly since then.  I Have upgraded to Windows 8 and then Windows 8.1 so I wondered if there is some setting I haven't found yet.  It really looks like its trying to be in 3D mode with an offset of blue and red.  The Vox looks normal and so do the splash images.  It's the rendered stuff that looks weird.

Yes, Splendid is the mode selecting thingy, but the word "automatically" makes me worry a bit. As you said, it "changes---settings like---color". And yes, your card should be able to run the game, but you should start with minimal settings and work your way up step by step. Although the game requirements haven't changed much, some changes may have made the game too heavy to run at the settings you used to have. The picture you attached looks a little like a loose or damaged cable or a failing screen, but if your other applications and desktop look normal, those are out of question. How about other games using DirectX?

Thanks again for responding.  Yes, the screenshot may look as though the screen is failing ( I have seen that before) but the desktop is crystal clear and its attached firmly via a HDMI cable. 

I'm not a big gamer, so I haven't tried any other games so I'm not sure about other games working or not.  Based on your comment about DirectX I looked back at the log and I see that I have DirectX 11 now..probably from the upgrade to 8 or at least 8.1.  On the Nvidia site says that my card does not support DirectX 11.  After learning this, I hit a MS forum and there seems to be much whaling and nashing of teeth about this issue.

I suspect that is the issue.  Any recommendations for a new card?  Looks like I'm going shopping on NewEgg.

Uninstalling DirectX11 and installing Dx9c sounds like an easy solution but since Windows 7 Dx11 has been preinstalled into the OS so it's a no-go. You might try this one though: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/8c9db01f-4a6b-4688-bb18-0befb584cb4a/how-i-can-uninstall-directx-11-?forum=w7itproappcompat. The answer leads to Dx9c download page. IIRC there's been some discussion here about that, too. It appears that there's something dropped off in the latest versions of DirectX, something that installing an older version will fix. Since this might also be connected to the video drivers, updating them wouldn't hurt - perhaps even uninstalling them first thoroughly! Since I'm not using a GeForce card myself, I can't tell which drivers would be the best for your card. Probably the newest won't be the best, since they support features that don't exist in your card which may cause problems.

Thanks.  I think I have things working now.

I went and tried Battlefield play for free as a way to test with another game and I was getting similar issues there.

I did download the Dx9C and rebooted.  It didn't initially work.  I went to Nvidia and downloaded some drivers specific to my card from last November.  The current drivers were for June of this year, but they didn't show up specific to my card.  After that, things seem to be working.  I just did a quick test in offline mode and it looks OK.  I didn't have time to immerse myself, but I will check it out later to make sure it is working.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I am considering upgrading the graphics card in the near future, but at least I've got things working again.
