Discovering a Planes Potential
« on: November 07, 2013, 05:42:16 PM »
In the last two months or so I had more kills in an F6 than any other plane (not that I play a lot and have a lot of kills mind you).  What I figured was an F6f...hmmmmm.

* Dives well.
* Turns OK to good.
* Great guns and nose over view.
* Great rudder control.
* Can do snap-shots.
* Can dive with and out turn most boom-and-zoomers.
* Must stay aware of 6 more than most birds (bad 6 viz).

Hey, this could be a great ride for base defense!!!  ...and it is.  I just never made the time to learn it well. Great in a horde base attack too (flying assuming someone is always on your 6).  What a great plane!

I experienced the same epiphany in a BF-109g2.  I figured this plane:
* Turns good.
* Climbs good.
* Good acceleration.
* Cant do snap-shots, in fact you must fire from 300 or less.
* Rudder control good.
* Must stay aware of dive compression (or call it what you want) more than most birds.

So get this, in most turny and\or non-perk planes once you use the rudder you lose much E.  The caveat is with the 109g2 = you can gain it back quickly AND it is a plane that turns pretty good.  A sweet-spot kinda.  Cant climb like a k4...but out turns it.  Cant turn with many Spits...but with rudder and re-acceleration it can be very surprising.  And it is!

Both birds, F6 and 109g2, you have to get in there and fly them to be effective. These planes don't change as much as I slowly get better.  :lol

Please share any epiphanies you may have found.

Thanks,

have you considered flying the Spitfire Mk XVI with 3 eggs and 50% fuel for base defence?

You can stop a mini horde by killing the advance gvs and if a fighter dives on you shake the stick about and it will easily roll and turn out of their guns.

Also shooting >600 yards with hispano might return the odd PK on an angry horder.

Good for HO's and whines too.   Plus you would look much cooler than a luft or American bird.   ;)

Bruv you are a good pilot no doubt.  :salute

I tend to more enjoy shooting down planes in non-Tie Fighter birds.  Many times in planes that have the odds stacked highly against them.  Squeaking out performance to the last drop.  Yes of course "it is the pilot" but ...

Shooting down a Spit16 in a P-40c for example makes my entire week.  I am strange that way.  :rock

Rock on!

I use the Spit XVI exactly like that for base defense. My other favorite is the N1K2-J. Both can kill the lead tanks and shred light armored vehicles. The Niki has the advantage of 4 cannon and a hefty amount of ammo. The Spit has the advantage of getting to bomb run altitude quicker. Both can take on enemy fighters effectively, even while giving away the altitude advantage.
