When I fight them, I know I always go vertical, and they're pretty unhappy about it.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

First, know that you're in one of the best knife fighters in the game (few can out turn you).  Second, know that a great many planes can out run you (few are slower than you).  Third, know that your ammo is limited (60rds/cannon).  Be sure your shots are precise.

Once you get those three key items in your head, learn how different it handles at different speeds.  You'll really need to know the different roll rates.  Learn how it accelerates, learn how well it climbs with and without E.  Learn where the stall point is.

It is a very steady and forgiving aircraft to fly.  The biggest things to know is you're lack of speed and you're lack of ammo.  It isn't a bomber hunter or tank buster, it is a pure air superiority fighter.

The Spit V is a shell of what is used to be.  That's my thought on it.

All true.  In addition, because the Spit regains energy so quickly, use your throttle a lot.

Not the Spit V.  It is pretty sluggish.

I disagree, I've found few planes to be as responsive to the throttle as the Spit 5. It's an AWESOME stall fighter, and a quick chop of the throttle will keep you from getting hit, if timed well. Like most spits, keep full power in left turns, no flaps, or very quick on/off to help in the turn. Right turns will be your best.

Other Spits, Bf109s, Fw190s, N1Ks, A6Ms, Ki-84s, Yak-3s and 9Us, Lavochkins, Ki-43s and P-38J and Ls.  Some others too.

With the exception of the other Spits (fairly obvious), Zekes and Oscars, I contest this.

Lol, 109's and 190's are known for their superb climb and acceleration. The La-7 and Yak-3 ate certainly superior.

Face it, the spit V is solidly below average.
