Super heavy/prototype/unused but still made vehicle arena
« on: November 17, 2013, 09:46:20 AM »
Okay, this was brought up in the TOG 2 thread, and I was wondering your thoughts on having an arena for super heavy, prototype, and built but still used, arena? I know there are things we still need, but this would be cool. :salute
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

you mean a dead arena?  besides how you gonna build prototypes when a lot of info is missing.  wot has a lot of tanks that were prototypes but in looking at the specs we can figure out that they were little more than napkin drawings.  I would rather ah spend their time adding the planes that actually flew in ww2 (a26 :)).

Fair enough, but I feel AH could do WAY better in the modeling area than WoT could ever come close to. :salute

Well thank god AH doesn't do that type of crap. The day the 1946 arena comes out is the day I quit.

You don't even play online, how would you think you know how the game is?

Playing off line, even with the missions might give you an idea, but it isn't even close to what goes on. When you have a bunch of people playing against each other creates a bunch of different dynamics. We have a number of arenas now and all are sparsely populated because most people like to play AGAINST others. Adding one more arena that has little interest isn't going to do anything but waste good coading time at HTC for nothing.

No thanks, I say lets stick with the strait up WWII theme.

I just think it's hard for you to suggest things if you have no clue as to what we have going on now. Wait until you get on line and check it out for a month or two. Even then I think you'll only have scratched the surface but at least you'll have a bit of an idea.

While I largely agree with you I'd still like to see a Korean arena added at some point.  A very few additions would be needed to get it in place (A-26, F-87, Mig 15) along with moving a few of the planes we have now over to fill it out (P-37, P-51, etc.).  Planes like the A-26 could be used there and in the MA while several development opportunities would present themselves (F8F, later Spitfires, etc.) for some of those "just missed the war" additions people wish for.

Although I realize it would be a little populated arena it would provide a unique and fun diversion to the MA from time to time like WWI provides now.  In fact, a bridge between WWI and WWII might allow a Spanish Civil War arena as well.

The problem I see with EW and MW as they stand is that there's nothing new there.  Everything in those arenas is available in the MA.  IMO the real expansion areas are in the fringes around WWII where there's still a ton of devlopment opportunity where each arena would bring something unique and different as a draw to both current and potential players.

My opinion is the OP went too far when there's a lot that could be done with what actually saw action at some point in time.  There's also no need to dive in head first.  Dipping a toe in these waters then adding to them slowly over time would be fine so as not to detract too much from MA development.

BTW, I play online.  ;)
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I'd like to see the WWI arena fixed so it's more than just a Dr.I furball arena before we even start looking at Korea:

Some kind of mechanic to drive fights beyond just being a furball lake
Perk the Dr.I and add a more balanced German fighter (Albatross D.V for starters).
Add the SPAD XIII, and a Nieuport
Add bombers, Zeppelins, balloons
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Isn't our Dr I too fast? From everything I've heard, it was replaced because it was too slow.

*guilty voice*  I... kinda like the idea of a 1946 arena.  :bolt:

Though looking at the state of the game, I am good with improving on what they've already got.  I'd rather a good, focused WWII game than a game that tries to cover too many eras with different gameplay needs.

Wiley.
If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

Might be too fast, and I think it also holds up too well in a dive. The fact that the Dr.I was prone to falling apart in-flight was also a SERIOUS issue with the type. Since that sort of issue (along with severe engine reliability problems due to short supplies of castor oil) doesn't get modeled, it eliminates one of the biggest historical checks on the Dr.I.

That the only aircraft that can effectively take it on is perked pretty much guarantees the Dr.I is going to own the arena.

Pretty sure the D.VII was perked.
