Here's a couple of adjustments that you should make to improve the accuracy of the whitewash:
White paint is applied to the upper surfaces over existing paint on winter schemes. You should paint a simple camouflage pattern in RLM 74/75/76 as a base then add the white over the base camouflage. While you state that in your post, the finished product looks like you painted the entire plane white. The underside should clearly be RLM 76. By varying the opacity of the whitewash, in effect simulating paint strokes, you can sell the fact that it is a temporary topcoat. For example, have a look at Fencers' Jg53 G-14 or my Jg54 F-4 and G-2.
