why would you try to use a Scots note in England??
it would be like me using dollars in Aberdeen.
Knowing Aberdeen, dollars might be perfectly acceptable.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

If you give up the sovereignty of your currency, you give up a lot.  Your central bank, for example, can no longer adjust currency supply, but some other entity can.

"Scottish Bank notes are not Legal Tender, not even in Scotland. In fact, no banknote whatsoever (including Bank of England notes!) qualifies for the term 'legal tender' north of the border and the Scottish economy seems to manage without that legal protection."

No just the Bank of England which is actually a Central bank. You can't open an account anymore than you can in the Federal Reserve. The printing of notes leads to some interesting situations. For example each bank in Northern Ireland has it's own notes. So among others you get Bank of Ireland notes, Ulster bank notes and strangest of all Danske bank notes. Try spending them in England.  :rofl  One guy got arrested for trying to buy something with a Northern bank note in England.

Years ago the IRA robbed the then Northern bank of millions of their notes. The bank promptly printed new style banknotes and cancelled the old ones. Rendered them useless overnight. Problem solved.
