The off topic posts in this thread is why we can't get nice things...

Meh. I challenge that theory. I bet there's more than one wish
thread that went off topic yet didn't derail the eventual actuality.

I'm thinking its more to do with the perception of what a 'nice
thing' is.  ;)

Still not having the curtisty to keep the post on topic or relevant is sad.  Or at least offering another way of fixing something "I don't think this will work, but perhaps this will".

While I understand that sometimes these things are in good fun and humor, it risks the topic being derailed.

Why not just have the trails change colour with energy state? dunno how doable that is though :/ I made a rough training aid like that once but it was too much of a pain to recolour the trails with photoshop.

I like this idea.
If we have something to show we will & do post shots, if we have nothing new to show we don't.

Actually very good idea also you rather need a normalized energy.

i.e. not

but rather

For example slow lancaster flying at 15k carrying 16k bombs has much more energy than your me 262 at 20k flying 0.8 Mach, but it is irrelevant as what is interesting is

Excellent point.

Another illustration, say a P38L with full fuel and ammo (17700lbs) is flying on the deck in formation with a light I16 (4000lbs). The P38L is going to have 4 times the energy of I16. If we just assume pure Newtonian physics with no aerodynamic drag or engine power inputs, both planes will be able to zoom climb to the exact same altitude since they both started with the same speed (like throwing Galileo's small and big rock back up to him on top of the leaning tower of Pizza). You wouldn't be able to easily decipher what was happening to E states one plane relative to the other without energy bars normalized for mass.
