Kidney stone - 9 mm

I've dealt with 2 episodes of kidney stones in the last 3 years. A CT done yesterday revealed a 9 mm stone at the base of my left Ureter...almost .5 " 

My GP doc is out of town till Friday. Anyone have one this large pass from their kidney? How did you deal with it? From what I read, 9mm is too large to pass thru the yardstick.

It isn't fun having kidney stones.

I've had 6 in the past 7 years.

Sigh, I hate genetics sometimes. Got it from my mom's side of the family (great grandma had over 80 in her lifetime, 1st was at 9.)

I was 11 when I had my 1st kidney stone, pissed so much blood I thought I was going to die. Even my family freaked out, especially when they found out it was a kidney stone.

 


Hope you can pass it or have the "sound" treatment done.

(Sound treatment being they put you in a tub with water and use soundwaves to destroy the kidney stone, had this done for 2 of mine).

made Kindey stones feel like a morning breeze.


right before you know you are going to pass them.......take a hammer smash the big toe.....guaranteed you will not feel the stones.

Haven't had them years (cross fingers) but passed one that looked like a .22 bullet. No pain but those little mother fornicators hurt like hell.

Change your diet. As mentioned, cranberry juice.

I separated my shoulder when I was 16....... that was a b%$#h, but nothing compared to the pancrentitus....I found out I had it over 15 years ago....and nothing compares........... nothing.......doctors say it is the most painful disease there is and is worse then a woman giving birth.....I know 5 people that died from it after having it for less then a couple years.....I am going on 16 years now with it......imagine if you will a rolling pin made of white hot fire, rolling up and down the inside of your stomach(this is a typical day if I push too much fat into my system).....then imagine a pain so severe that it dropped me to my knees and I was unable to vocalize words......within 15 minutes of being in the emergency room I was having demoral pumped into my arse cheek....even that pain felt good compared....having my 4 foot Alligator almost rip off a couple of fingers didn't even come close to it.

errrmmmm... not even. i thought the same after getting my first one (two so far thanks to dad's genes)   cranberry juice might actually accelerate the formation of stones...

cranberry juice is good for bladder infections.

Kidney stones: Cranberry juice and cranberry extracts contain a large amount of a chemical called oxalate. In fact, there is some evidence that some cranberry extract tablets can boost the level of oxalate in the urine by as much as 43%. Since kidney stones are made primarily from oxalate combined with calcium, healthcare providers worry that cranberry might increase the risk of kidney stones. If you have a history of kidney stones, avoid taking cranberry extract products or drinking a lot of cranberry juice.

Drinking water. Drinking as much as 2 to 3 quarts a day may help flush out your urinary system. Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, drink enough fluid mostly water — not vodka or moonshine  ....to produce clear or nearly clear urine.

Using sound waves to break up stones. For certain kidney stones — depending on size and location — your doctor may recommend a procedure called extracorporeal? shock wave lithotripsy?. SWL uses sound waves to create strong vibrations that break the stones into tiny pieces that can be passed in your urine. The procedure lasts about 45 to 60 minutes and can cause moderate pain, so you may be under sedation or light anesthesia to make you comfortable . SWL can cause blood in the urine, bruising on the back or abdomen, bleeding around the kidney and other adjacent organs, and discomfort as the stone fragments pass through the urinary tract.

 




My mother had it as well  ......Most attacks of pancreatitis need treatment in the hospital. Your doctor will give you pain medicine and fluids through a vein (IV) until the pain and swelling go away.

Fluids and air  build up in your stomach when you have problems with your pancreas. The buildup can cause severe vomiting. If buildup occurs, your doctor might place a tube through your nose and into your stomach to remove the extra fluids and air. This will help make the pancreas less active and swollen.

Although most people get better after an attack of pancreatitis, problems will occur. Problems include cysts, infection, and/or death of tissue in the pancreas.

You might need surgery to remove your gallbladder or the part of the pancreas that you damaged.

If your pancreas has been severely damaged, you may need to take insulin to help your body control blood sugar. You also may need to take pancreatic enzyme pills to help your body digest fat and protein.

If you have chronic pancreatitis, you will need to follow a low-fat diet and stop drinking alcohol. You may also take medicine to manage your pain. Making changes like these may seem hard. But with planning, talking with your doctor, and getting support from family and friends, these changes are possible.

Interesting Ink. My wife used to get these at least once a year. She then had an old school doctor tell her to drink cranberry juice. She does so on a regular basis, once a month or so she'll buy a gallon and drink it for a week. She hasn't had one for a decade now.

This is not scientific just old school and worked. Based on Ink's thought I would do a little research.

My first stone was the size of the OP's.  Thought I was gonna die.  It had the tube totally blocked so everything behind it was getting backed up.  Had to go in for a stone extraction where they knock you out then shove the jaws of life up your wang and pull it out.  The stent you gotta keep in for a week or two after is like pissing razor blades.  Luckily I've been able to pass the other three I've had, but none of them are fun.

 I did 1 month in the hospital tube fed and 3 and a half months in home care tube fed..no food went down my gullet for 4 and a half months.... ...I had a cyst on my pancreas that was the size of a grapefruit..it absorbed back into itself which the doctor didn't understand ........the doctor says to me...so mr Fields you must like to drink......I says nope don't drink at all....hmmm eat a lot he asks...I say...well I am not 270 lbs for nothing.....

the best trip I ever had was on demoral and morphine....4 days straight in the hospital 

I eventually had my gall bladder removed, that is what caused my pancrentitus...... gall stones...since I was about 12 yo....until I was 29....imagine that......to this day I deal with the stomach pain.....I try keep the fat intake lo but not like I used to, for a long time I was on a very strict diet of 10 grams of fat a day, which is how I lost 95 lbs in 6 months 

on another note now is as good as a time as any to say to you specifically I am sorry for insulting you in the past....I am a hot headed arse sometimes(well most of the time )....and truly I should not have allowed my real world life to effect me the way it did.......

you probably don't care, and I can understand that, hell you don't know me, and I am sure the stories I have told seem far fetched and all....its easy to not believe me and just think I have lied.....which BTW not a thing I have said ever was a lie.....

I do want to say the talk I do about being locked up and breaking legs and all the other stuff is not about bragging but more the power of love......and how it has changed me....but as you know that old Paul comes out too easy sometimes.

just want you to know....what happened before is gone I hold no hard feelings and hope someday you will be able to do the same, I know we will never be buds or see the same....but maybe just maybe you will be able to see that I am a man of my word and hold God....Honor.....and integrity above all else.
