I don't understand that suggestion.  Didn't Vista do away with hardware accelerated audio to implement DRM?  And doesn't that limitation extend to Win 7 and 8?

Yes directsound went to crapper with DX10.

Even though Windows 7 and 8 do not support hardware acceleration natively, Asus and Creative have built an OpenAL layer, meaning you get your hardware acceleration and EAX and such back to old games. Newer games may have native OpenAL support, too.

Creative Alchemy does the DS3D conversion for Creative cards. The program Asus uses is better than Creatives because it is fully automatic, you have to manually enable stuff in the Creative implementation. I'm not sure though if AH is supported in those.

Better monitor is always a plus. It can make the game look like new again if you're used to some old screen.

If you say so... Each example I've seen so far has been 32 bit, but I'm aware that a 64 bit version was available, too. IMO 64 bit Windows was quite a rarity until Win7.

it will be functional in the way that the game will be clearer and prettier, you really wasted the money you spent on that system on that low resolution.  if it was me, I would update the monitor, video card and os.  if you have a vista 64 bit then start with monitor then video card then os.  that's what I would do.

if I see correctly you have two monitors at different resolutions.  am I reading it right?  if you lived closed to me I would let you have my old 3 monitors for less than what you would pay for one.

I traded the 3 23 in 1920x1080 for a single 27 2660x1440 (or something like that).  eventually I'll upgrade to 3 but will wait a bit as the monitors are 600 bucks each and first I need to upgrade my video cards.  the video card I want is selling pretty fast so it's always out of stock.
