The Polar Vortex Effect... For our Centigrade users.
Friday, it was -13C here at at 6AM, with 1 foot of snow on the ground and more falling. Wind speeds of 40 mph making the windchill -26C. Spent several hours with my Poulon Pro (Husqvarna) snow thrower clearing our driveway and that of a neighbor. Temp peaked at -9C.
Saturday: -12C overnight, it warmed up to balmy -4C.
Sunday: The fast tracking storm draws up warm moist air from the south. Temperature was 2C at 6 PM, and rose overnight along with the onset of heavy rain.
Monday: Woke up to a downpour and the temperature was up to 14C at 7 AM. Rained hard much of day, adding just over 1 inch of rain to the 1+ foot of snow. Almost all traces of snow gone by noon. Temperature is on the way down. 7C by 1 PM, 1C by 6 PM, and -2C now. Going down to -12C tonight with winds expected to increase to 45 mph by dawn. That will make a windchill of -27C when I leave for work tomorrow. All of the melted snow and recent rain will rapidly freeze, making for very icy roads and sidewalks. The high temp for tomorrow is expected to be -9C with a windchill of -20C.
