Add to Carrier Please
« on: January 08, 2014, 12:13:24 PM »
:airplane: Sure would be nice to have one of these on the carriers. I know that this wasn't used during WW2, but 262 didn't shoot down Zekes and B-29's either, so what the heck!

How about, to keep it historical, we have a flagman giving you the same signals the lights provide?

"Aces of the Pacific" had a cool system for this.  As you turned onto final (within a certain distance of the ship), a small window would pop up in the upper left corner of the screen with still picture of the LSO holding the paddles.  The picture would change to indicate your current flight path and orientation (Example: both paddles above/below shoulders meant you were above/below glide slop).  It would probably help newer pilots with CV ops.

I rarely have issues landing (if I make it to the CV), but it sounds like a cool immersion thing..

Landing is my favorite part of a CV launch.

I bet if they added the lights, they would add a pitching deck. :joystick:

:airplane: That would be a great idea, just don't know how much trouble it would be to implement!

:airplane: Randy, you know I don't have good eye sight anyway, so I always use the 360 overhead approach thing, but am still having trouble getting power to zero and wings level just at touch down, but dang it, I am going to do it yet! I just think it would be a cool addition to the game, especially if we actually had a "LDO", I think was what they were called, with paddles.

It wouldn't matter what the light said, or what the man flapping his arms was doing.
As soon as your committed, the CV turns :aok

Lol, I saw the other landing lights thread before I saw this one. It immediately made me think of AotP's LSO.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

All VASI would do is make all the n00bz crash into the same spot on the runway because they are coming in too hot.  Landing long is a speed control issue, not an approach slope problem.

A flagman animation would be really cool.  +1 to that idea.

Do a buxom anime bikini babe who jumps up and down when you land successfully. And where the Japanese would have waving cheering crew members seeing you off on takeoff. Have her friend do that on take off jumping up and down clapping her hands and waving.

This isn't ww2.
