It's the Consolidated TBY Sea Wolf (although designed by Vought).  It might have won out over the Avenger, as it carried the same load but was faster, and the Navy ordered 1000 of them, but there were accidents with the prototype.  By then things got mired in Vought being busy with Corsairs, manufacture shifting to Consolidated, manufacturing delays, and the Avenger won out.

Amazing collection. I loved the early jet age pics and the Japanese air forces as well. Just to much quality to get thru in one day. :aok
